R5 Blue Dream ? What kind of name is that??

Song of Norway was classy, Song of America sounded nice too, but Song of Flower ? What the....

Ocean Village ? Is it a cruise ship or a Club Med ?

Norwegian Wind ? Is this the polite way of describing a Norwegian Fart ?

Summit ? Summit...Vomit...too much alike...not a good name.

Crystal Serenity ? Yes, a perfect name for a ship where the majority of the passengers might just be wearing Serenity Bladder Control adult diapers.

Whahahhh I agree on that with you Miamicruiser. Today's ships get the most ridiculous names; as long as it 'sounds' good it's no problem for the companys.

Summit....vomit... hahah great.

CRYSTAL SERENITY must take the prize for the worst one coming out this year... What an awful name! How they picked it I don't know...

SUMMIT, actually, I don't mind... Never thought of it that way before . You have to admire Celebrity for at least not calling their ships "CELEBRITY SUN", "CELEBRITY SEA", and so on ...

Carnival's latest names sound a bit too overconfident for my taste - I mean, CARNIVAL GLORY and such were bad enough but CARNIVAL MIRACLE and CARNIVAL VALOR are just too much for my taste.

Costival's upcoming ships have some nice names in my opinion: Costa Fortuna, Magica...but Costa Mediterranea is a bit long-winded maybe. When you pronounce them 'at the Italian way' it's really ok.

And what do you think of the new MSC ships, Lirica and Opera? I don't quite know what to think about these two...

Hmm... COSTA FORTUNA... They're right, it did cost a fortune! Probably about a half a billion dollars !

I think Carnival's JUBILEE is stupid. What does that mean?

I'm guessing Carnival used the name Jubilee refering to a type of celebration. The name fit well when you look at the names of Carnival's early ships, Mardi Gras, Carnivale, Festivale, Holiday and Celebration. I'm not so sure how the name Tropicale fit in that theme of types of parties. Maybe someone here could explain that one.

What is pathetic is when the the lines name has to be in the name of the ship all the time, e.g. "Crystal Harmony" or "Carnival Glory" or "Norwegian Dawn". I just want to know who the idiots, and I mean IDIOTS are who are in the lines who are giving the ships their names. Only Cunard, HAL, and Celebrity give their ships decent names (without the lines name having to be in them). Princess is so-so. I mean, every freaking ship is "Something Princess" but it sounds better than "Carnival Something" or "Norwegian Something" or "Crystal Something". At least with Princess, you can sort of forget that the "Princess" part is the name of the line, at least I can. It reminds me of the "Empress" ships, like "Empress of Britain" and "Empress of....." you know what I mean...

I fully agree with CGT... I like when a line has a theme to its ship's names, but not when the name of the cruise line is part of the ship's name.

I think the cruise line's name is added for brand recognition... but it seem unimaginative to me.

Personally, I like Celebrity's names the best (except for Summit... I would have perfered "Venus"). I also liked how Sitmar used to name their ships... Fairwind, Fairsea, Fairstar, and of course Fairsky.

I really like how RCI used to name their ships.... before every ship was Something "of the Seas". Song of Norway, Nordic Prince, Sun Viking, Nordic Empress, Song of America, and Soverign of the Seas... beautiful names.

Old naming traditions, I think, were better than new ones... Cunard -IA, White Star -IC, Orient's OR-, SAL's -HOLM, NAL's -FJORD, and so on.

I liked NCL's -WARD names much better than "NORWEGIAN this" and "NORWEGIAN that". Sounds silly.

Royal Caribbean seems to have gone out of hand with "OF THE SEAS" too... I mean, SERENADE OF THE SEAS? Something tells me they're running out of names ...

Here are some really great sounding names for Royal Caribbean's next set of ships: Summit of the Seas...or Song of the Seas...or even better, Serenity of the Seas....if those don't work for them they can always use the truly beautiful name of R5 Blue Dream of the Seas.

Summit-I like it too!
At first hearing, one thinks...is it a meeting or a cruise?
Well, if you want a summit or conference, what better way to do it at sea. Saves a lot of worries.
It may deter some serene holiday seekers, but the cruiseships are now destinations themselves.
The market also allow fore ships to specialise.
And Summit got some Oceanliner relics. Not sure about that one, as long as it not blended too much with ultra modern design.

Not really. Summit means "peak" or "top". If something is the "summit" of service, for example, it is the very best. This is what Celebrity had in mind when choosing the name.

Thanks for the definition of Summit.
But somehow, I believe Celebrity also had in mind the burgeoning conference at sea business.
Now which Ocean liners donned her bits in the exclusive restaurant?

I doubt it. "Summit" as a term used for a meeting is usually reserved for international meetings of world leaders, not business conferences.

I have to say that in my opinion, Summit is a horrible name and it absolutely doesn't fit between the names of the great sounding Millennium-Constellation-Infinity row. From the beginning I thought Summit was a way too simple and unattractive name for such a beautiful ship and as I see her now as "Vomit", -thanks to miami cruiser - I don't like this name at all anymore! Moreover, it appears to be a confusing name.

Perhaps they should have reused the "Meridian" name instead of Summit. I like that better. Or how about "Eternity" that fits with their theme... but it might be confused with the perfume.

If Celebrity ever builds new ships, what do you think they should name them? Here are my suggestions:

Meridian
Eternity
Venus
Orion
Centurion
