Norwegian Dawn will sail year-round from New York, starting in May. Norwegian Cruise Line president and ceo Colin Veitch says the company decided to go year-round from Manhattan with its newest ship following the tremendous response to the vessel’s December launch.
‘Our travel agent partners are clamoring to have a brand new ship out of New York year-round and we are listening to them,’ Veitch said today. ‘NCL listened two years ago when New York travel agents asked us to bring a ship to New York sailing to the Bahamas. Although we hesitated, knowing we could only call on two ports on a seven-day itinerary, we made the move anyway and Norwegian Sea was extremely successful. With the brand new Norwegian Dawn and her innovative four-port itinerary, we expect to be even more successful year-round out of New York.’

Sailing at 25 knots, Norwegian Dawn can operate seven-day roundtrip cruises to four ports in the Bahamas and Florida. NCL points out that the ship ‘can leave the brisk weather of New York on Sundays and guests can wake up to sunshine and warm weather the next morning.’

The company is altering Norwegian Dawn’s previously announced itinerary to call at Port Canaveral first, giving passengers a 15-hour day to visit Orlando-area theme parks and attractions. The ship then calls in Miami, Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay (NCL's private island in the Bahamas). After the current winter season in Miami, Norwegian Dawn begins her New York deployment on May 18, with the city becoming her year-round home.

I very happy to hear the news. Now I can take a vacation in the winter without flying. If next winter is anything like this one I will hop on the Dawn in a flash! Today was 18 in NYC!

The only negative aspect of this I see is that the seas will be rough during the winter months and may cause many to get sea sick.

Since N. Dawn will go to NYC, is it possible that NCL might want to somehow fill in the spot in Miami, possibly a Project America?

Is it possible that NCL might somehow put in another ship on the same Caribbean itenary as the Dawn's current one as a replacement?

Norwegian Majesty to be based in Charleston (1/27/2003)

MIAMI -- Norwegian Cruise Line will introduce Charleston, S.C., as a homeport to the Norwegian Majesty beginning Nov. 8.
The Charleston cruises will be NCL's first from South Carolina; the Majesty was previously scheduled for winter cruising from Miami.

NCL touted the move as another U.S.-based homeport in its "Homeland Cruising" program. With the addition of Charleston, NCL has ships sailing from 13 North American ports.

The ship will sail 24 seven-day cruises to the Western Caribbean before repositioning to Boston for its Bermuda season

Oh, this is great. Finally we'll be able to cruise in the winter and not have to leave a day or two early in fear of a storm grounding all the planes. Plus the fact all the money we'll be saving by not having to fly can go towards more Pina Coladas. Woopie!
