I have been keeping track of newbuilds recently and I have been starting to get confused with the R1-R8 current status. I know R3 and R4 is being chartered to Princess and the R8 is being chartered to Swan Hellenic. What about the other ships in the R-Class? Also I saw some deck plans here at Travelpage.com on these vessels, but I can't find them now. Does anyone know where I can find them?

There are none 'cause the ship's were designed for kid-free cruises (no pax under 18 allowed onboard) for Renaissance Cruises. Even with Princess Cruises the PACIFIC PRINCESS and TAHITIAN PRINCESS do not feature a kid's room. Maybe they'll add one later on.

Thanks Onno.

Patrick described very well the ownership/chartering/operating status of the eight ships.

As for their "physical" status, they were all, except R3 and R4 now operated by Princess and already in the Pacific, so 6 in all, still laid up at Marseille yesterday Dec 20.

R FIVE, back here since last November, has the Pullmantur logo painted (or fixed) on its funnel and "Pullmantur Cruises" painted with large white letters on its dark blue hull. For some reason, BLUE DREAM does not appear on the hull but R FIVE still does.

All the 5 other ships still have their funnel all white and their original hull and superstructure colours.

It is to be noted one of the remaining ship will be briefly chartered by TMR France for two Med cruises on April 19-21 and April 21-27 2003.
I don't know which ship it will be but it seems it is either R ONE or most probably R TWO regarding deck plans provided by TMR that I received, although that indice is not 100% reliable.

Vaccaro,

Does Pullmantur Cruises only charter the R5 in the summer? Also, I thought the R8 is going to be Minerva II for Swan Hellenic Cruises so why haven't P&O Princess taken her away yet?

Yes, at least that was the case in 2002 (April/May to October in fact).

Also, I thought the R8 is going to be Minerva II for Swan Hellenic Cruises so why haven't P&O Princess taken her away yet?

Because the maiden voyage of MINERVA II with Swan Hellenic will happen in April 2003 (Easter) and if I make no mistake (in fact I don't really remember right now, so if someone can invalidate or confirm that...), P&O Princess (via Swan Hellenic) does not own her but will only operate her.
From what I saw yesterday, it seems R8 still has her white funnel and not the blue one with yellow flag/blue swan logo yet.

Vaccaro, thanks for your detailed information.

About the R FIVE: The name will be kept officially in the registers. "BLUE DREAM" is only the marketing name chosen by Pullmantur but there won't happen any official name-change as the ship will only be operated by Pullmantur. The charter will be continued next year.

The two Princess-ships are neither owned by Princess Cruises yet. They have been chartered on a leasing-basis (means with the charter-rate they pay they can later decide weather they aquire the ship or continue a charter or stop the charter). As it looks right now, Princess Cruises is willing to purchase both ships.

Oceana Cruises (formerd by the former Renaissance Cruises managers) obviously has signed a contract to charter the R ONE. As far as this is concerned it looks like this can be confirmed as they started to make publicity and publish the name and itiniraries already. The same is supposed to be realized with the R TWO which meanwhile, like Vaccaro said, will be chartered to TMR for two Med. cruises.

The R SIX and R SEVEN are still available for charter. As I have heared recently again, one German operator and a German cruiseline are negotiating as well about a charter but nothing can be confirmed right now. What the cruiseline is concerned, it can be said that it is MTC Marine Trade Consulting which currently manages the DELPHIN and the SAGA ROSE.

The Oceana Regatta and Nautica are being refitted in Marseille. These ships will feature the same restaraunts as their predecessors, except they will be open seating. Tides, the buffet restaraunt will feature regular food for breakfast and lunch, and Tapas for dinner.
