Here is an E-mail converstaion between myself and cruisetalk regular, PamM. Pam and her family are aboard the newbuild 'Norwegian Dawn' which set of from Southampton on Saturday, bound for NY:

Hi Malcolm,

I said: How are the Massey's enjoying themselves?

Having a great time thanks, rocking the day away in a F10 Great fun on deck in the wind and spray..LOL, creaks & groans like nobody's business.

Wind came up last night, subsided a bit this evening but waves still high banging away.

Has anyone posted to CT? Not had a chance to look yet as the Wireless only came online this pm when the Miami offices switched it on for Dawn.

Have a series of Ocean Liner history lectures, one each afternoon which are very popular [well the 2 we've had], nice touch as I wasn't expecting anything quite like that from NCL Even a series of Art lectures and other things too.

I said: How's the ship?

Bright Bright carpets etc, fun bright, not tacky.

I could attach some pics but they are large and I have no means of reducing/compressing here, nor can I tell if the colours are right or need lightening etc as it depends on the angle of the laptop screen as to what I see Dave managed to mangle a card of pics so I have to retake a pile too, but never mind. Have a couple of .avi s of the ship up/down in the howling wind, glorious rainbows today.

I think it was Ernie's? comment before about the 'flow' on Star? Dawn does not flow as Sun does, you get 'stuck' in places, especially trying to find the internet cafe on deck nine.. hmm, don't try and get in from deck 9! You can't. All fun anyway so far.

How's the ride?

Real sidebangers today. Blankets in the towel areas on the pool deck! Mulled wine on sailaway [2 hrs late] free too! Any way I have loads to write. Capt was hoping we may have a chance to pass 'Project America' on tow, but she's too far north. We're taking a route which takes us 30m north of the Azores [the most northerly island, forgot name offhand].

Anyway, now the wireless is online I'll do some more for tomorrow. With full details. I haven't a clue who Seabourndt is, have already made a fool of myself asking someone if it was him

Pam

NCL should have a special ceremony with the Project America Hull and the Dawn to symbolize their newbuilds, since the P.A. hull will follow the Dawn.

One of Pam's photos did manage to get through. Here is a picture of Pam and Mike (fellow cruise talker mike01772) on the Norwegian Dawn.

We are scheduled to pass the Statue of Liberty at 7am on Sat [14th], and berth at Pier 90 thereafter. There will be a 'fanfare' of the fireboats to greet the arrival.

As it's somewhat difficult for me to take photos of the hull, I wonder if someone could please grab some shots from the ESB webcam, both from afar and zoomed in as we sail up and berth? and maybe a shot from the PP cam, but not sure that reaches 90?

Thanks a lot anyone!

Pam

Hi Pam!

Welcome to the States!

I am so sorry, but it was too cloudy to take any shots from the ESB cam. I got up early and sat down with my coffee all set to guide yyou up river only to find that the cam was shrouded in clouds. Pied Piper travel cam wasn't even worth it. Too blurry. So sorry about the missed shots. Glad you all made it here safe and hope you have a wonderful time exploring the Seaport Museum.

Looking forward to reading you review.

Have a wonderful time here and a safe trip home.

Hi Michael, you can try for me next Saturday morning, if you wish? I'll be on the QE2.

I'll be there! I just read your post. How exciting!!!!

Have a wonderful time. And no matter how you feel about the ship, you will always be able to say that you sailed on the Queen.

Smile real big and I will try to get a close-up

Never mind, thanks for trying. The weather wasn't too good. I couldn't see the top of the ESB, so assumed all was in the clouds.
As to New York, well I'm just glad I didn't have to battle my way through the stationary hoards of people and queue for hours just to get into a shop! Goodness, I hope that was a one off day yesterday with the crowds. But the rest of Manhatten was nice. It was too much of a rush to even get inside the museum but took some pics of Peking etc.
That is mike01772 above, aboard with his family and parents. Great meeting them all. Seabourndt..where were you? I made a fool of myself asking a number of people if they were you
The cruise overall was great. Norwegian Dawn is very nice, a bit bright with the carpets, but not too tacky and some lovely rooms. It was the 'shakedown' and went better than I thought it would. Some problems got ironed out straight away, others took a bit longer. Food ranged from so so to good to excellent, depending on the restaurant and how far into the trip we were
For the market she has been built for I think she will do well.

Dear Lord, that paint job on the hull has to be the tackiest thing I've ever seen (well, almost)!

If you want to be identified as the "low end" cruise line, that's a great way to do it.

Please tell me they will repaint it immediately if not sooner!

If it was HAL with their 55++ demographics I'd agree, but for the LOT younger market that NCL is after with that ship it's actually quite attractive.
