This short article appeared yesterday at boatnerd.com

"Departing Montreal Sunday afternoon was the cruise ship Caribic Star. Her destination according to the agent is Santiago de Cuba for refurbishing.
From Cuba the vessel will to go to the Bahamas to begin cruise service. As Arcadia, after only a very few cruises in the Great Lakes, she was placed under arrest at Windsor in July 2001. Later on the same month, the vessel arrived in Montreal where she remained under arrest until this fall. In Early April the ship was renamed Caribic Star hoisting the Panama flag"

Does anyone here know more about this and who the Caribic Star will be sailing for and what sort of itineraries it will be doing?

She is owned by Anaconda Maritime!
This page from last year makes interesting reading near the bottom. Talk about a snake!

As to what she's going to be doing, go to
this page and stick it through a translator. The bottom few lines say this:-
"the company is formed by the people who have handled east boat, which is a Greek company that is called ' ' Golden Sun Cruises '', who were visiting the Greek islands, Turkey and Egypt during last the 10 years '', emphasized.
Velasquez needed that the executives of ' ' the Golden Sun Cruises '' have good reputation between the touroperadores that have worked with them and who now will continue toiling for ' ' the Caribic Cruises '' in this new route by the Caribbean."
Read the rest of the page too. They say it was completely refurbished in 2000 and sailed the Great Lakes.. no mention of for how that time was 'cut short'

Do you know what the results of the hearing were? I hope Great Lakes Cruises and especially their passengers are compensated for their loses. From what I remember when this all happened last year Great Lakes Cruises was not at fault for anything, other than maybe chartering a ship from Golden Sun Cruises. This incedent combined with the bankruptcy of ACV and Delta Queen Coastal Voyages last have hurt consumer confidence in Great Lakes cruises. What is really unfortunate is that in each of these cases the cause of their demise had almost nothing to do with the Great Lakes.
Because I was unable to open the second link, do you know what itineraries the Caribic Star will be operating and what nationality they will be catering too? I don't quite understand how a 33 year old, 5000 ton ship will be able to compete with today's modern superliners. Even in short Bahama cruises the Caribic Star would have to compete with Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, and Imperial Majesty. Thanks for your help.

From the site it appears she will be based in Port Silver, Dominican Republic, and sail twice weekly.
Monday Port Silver
Tuesday Santiago de Cuba
Wed Santiago de Cuba
Thurs Port Silver
Friday Mo Bay
Sat Mo Bay
Sun Santiago de Cuba
Mon Port Silver
Being marketed to Europeans & Canadians on a 2 week holiday in DR as a side trip to Cuba/Jamaica. Operations were supposed to have started at the end of Sept, so perhaps this is now all out of date anyway.

Great Lakes, add an 'm' at the end of the URL, it got missed off, sorry. I don't know anymore than what the other site says, but I do believe GL Cruises were a bit green in dealing with Golden Sun and taken for a ride. Sad outcome, as had she been up to scratch would probably have done well in the Lakes?
