I was doing some cleaning and I found this picture in a AAA ad that came out earlier this year. It appears to be an alternate version of HAL's Statendam class ships. I don't know if AAA touched up the picture themselves or if they found it somewhere else, but I thought some of you might be interested. I like the way this version looks, except that the retractable dome got covered over.

Interesting picture indeed. Her entirely enclosed front section reminds me a bid of Arcadia. I’m not so found of the way the lifeboats are situated in four different openings in the superstructure. I like the Statendam class current lifeboat arrangement better. Looks a bit more traditional. The two funnels are a bit questionable, surely HAL wouldn’t have thought of giving this class of ship a dummy funnel. Never the less I think it is a nice picture as a sort of study sketch to look how particular details and proportions would have looked like.

What exactly is an AAA, where you found this?

Personally I think it is quite ugly !

AAA is no doubt the American Automobile Association.

That picture certainly does not look like the Statendam.

Triple A and HAL have a long-standing promotional relationship. I just recieved the new AAA Travel Tropical Cruise Travel Planner, the whole thing is filled with discounted Holland America cruises. There is a 7-day eastern Caribbean cruise on Zaandam for $599 that looks very interesting, but sadly doesn't coincide with my schedule.
