Yes I have.. It's a German Cruise Line, primarily marketed to a younger generation. This ships remodeled interiors are quite hip, unlike any other cruise line I know of. If you can muddle through the German text only, the website has some great pics.

Hi titanicsteve

Here's the German text from Darrell's URL, followed by an English translation - I'm advised by the translator (a German) that it's very badly written German!

Life Balance in der Karibik. Mit Workshops zum Wiederfinden innerer Balancen, neuem Schwung und Anregungen für Freizeit und Alltag. Herrliche Zeiten, die restlos gut tun. So what’s on? Fabelhafte 80er oder Life Balance? Keine leichte Entscheidung, aber so ist das ab jetzt mit zwei AIDAs. Life is life.

Now in English -

99 balloons….do you remember??
Welcome to the "Fabulous 80th "during this year’s Life-Week from 15 Nov. to 25 Nov. 02 on the "AIDAcara".

Let yourself be whisked away and sent back to this Transmed Route AIDAcaras von Palma de Mallorca and the time of "Beehive" hairstyles, flash-dance, Biene Maja and E.T., Dallas and Denver Clan.

Surprises and life entertainment with known stars are of course included as it usually is on board, in order to get the 80th out onto the dance floor….

… but that is only one of two possibilities.

If you are more inclined to time in Paradise under palms, then you are in the right spot on the "AIDAvita. About 6000 miles West you have the chance to relax from 29 Nov. to 13 Dec. 02. Life Balance in the Caribbean.

There will be workshops to find your inner balance and give you a new outlook on life for work and play. Good times that really make you feel alive.

So what is it going to be: "Famous 80th" or "Life Balance"??? Not an easy decision, but that’s the way it will be from now on with 2 AIDAs. Life is life.

Hope this helps.

Happy cruisin'

PS. This also from the site, if you click around a bit, may be of inerest to some posters -

"Seetours is one of Germany's leading cruise businesses with more than 40 years of experience. Seetours sells the product brands AIDA and A'ROSA. The company also acts as a general sales agent for Princess Cruises in Germany."

Saw one of these "ships with lips" in the Caribbean a few months ago -- certainly looked very smart.
Quite a few of the German pax went to the same beaches as us, with very nice stripey ships towels ... rolled up on the sunbeds!

Hello,

This ship started out in 1996 as a new concept, "Das Clubschiff" ("The Club Ship") for Seetours, who were at the time an independent company that operated Arkona (now Astoria). The ship was originally named Aida and was owned by NCL.

A few years back, Seetours was bought by P&O, including, of course, Aida. The company was restyled as AIDA and the ship was renamed AIDAcara. A new, larger ship was recently introducd, AIDAvita and she will have a sister AIDAaura.

The upmarket version of AIDA, A'ROSA, has just been launched with A'ROSA BLU, formerly Princess' Crown Princess.

AIDA is a highly popular concept. It is rather like NCL's "Freestyle Cruising" in the basic concept of no assigned seatings, etc. but I am under the impression that the quality of the AIDA product is rather better. The food, service, etc. are generally quite well reviewed.

Raoul Fiebig has a very nice photo gallery of the brand new AIDAvita, the newer sister ship of the one in the model here.

Happy Cruising,
Cruiseny

Titanicsteve,
I would be interested in knowing where to get models like that. I went to the Revell web site and found nothing. Where did you see it? I would like to have information if anyone knows how to find passenger ship models like that. Thanks
Richard

I bought my AIDA model in my local model store perhaps you could ask in a model shop if they have the model or can order it. Although this is a very small model (10 cm) it is highly detailed even up to the deck chairs, swimming pool, small life boats, even the woden decks are present. The decals of the lips and eyes are also detailed. In some larger scaled models I haven’t seen this much and very accurate details.

When I saw this model a few years back I was very delighted and bought it immediately because it rather hard to find models of passenger ships and even harder to find a modern cruise ship. (what you can find in abundance are those stupid warship models)

If you like to make ship models and have the opportunity to by the AIDA I would really recommend it.

All the best from Holland,
Onno
