My wife and I are scheduled to fly from the US to Buenos Aires, Argentina on January 30. We are staying on a 3 day pre cruise package with Celebrity Cruises and then leave on a 14 day cruise of Brazil. We then return to Buenos Aires to fly home. All I have seen on television lately is the political unrest ing Buenos Aires with the police shooting at protestors and buildings burning. When I call Celebrity to ask about the cruise, they just tell me it is business as usual.
Should I be concerned, or how would you handle it?

No Problem!
Celebrity will have an look on you, the Passengers.
If they see an Problem, they will not book Passengers in Argentinian Hotels and change the Harbour (for Example: go to Montevideo
(Uruguay) instead of Buenos Aires.

This year all Companies have delistet Israel Ports. This can be more dangerous.

When i was on my last stay in Kenya in summer 1997, there are Riots, too. Sometimes the Airport of Mombasa was closed, an other day open.

O.K.: I stay in Flamingo Beach and leave the Hotel only in Groups. But it was no Problem.

Nairobi is more dangerous. At night, there you can risk your Life with an white Skin.

Enjoy the Cruise. Celebrity is an very good Company.

Hi barpal
I agree with Amerikanis. Celebrity takes care of its passengers.
I will embark the day after tomorow on the Mercury and today asked the company about the sheduled stop in Buenos Aires next Tuesday. They told me nothing has changed.
If I find some trouble I will let you know, from an internet cafe.

Have an nice Cruise, Nebrasil!!

By the way: Rio is dangerous, too, in some parts of the Town (the so called: FAVELAS)

But it is one of the nicest Cities in the World.

I was there with the MONTEREY in 1995. See the Corcovado and the Sugarhat. It is an phantastic View from these points over the City and the Beaches.

I think, the Argentiniens have big economic Problems, but it is no unsafe Country.

They will float the Peso (until today it is together with the Dollar) and this will make the own Currency 30-50 % cheaper for People with hard Money like Dollar or Euro.

The European Community announced to help them and i think, the US will help, too.

Nobody is interested in an Economic Desaster in South America or an Part of it.

So, enjoy your Cruise.

I have booked my next Cruise from Bali to Bombay with the ASTOR. In Indonesia there are big social Problems and India could be in War with Pakistan...

...where is the Problem for me???

Nice, to hear that!

I was in Brazil with the MONTEREY in 1996.

Starting Genova and go to Recife-Olinda-Salvador da Bahia-Buzios-Rio. From there flight back to Germany.

It was very nice there, but some Parts of Rio are Crime, too.

My wife and i survive that too...

...and do not want to miss it!

I was there last week and I can assure you "don't worry". We had a private tour guise for the afternoon and the tourist places she took us to were also the places where the protests were held. The only thing unusual things we saw were painted slogans on the brickwork. She told us that the majority of what we are getting in the states is just the press blowing things up as usual. Do not, under any circumstance, miss taking a tour of this city as I think it is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Make sure that you go to Eva Peron's tomb. That graveyard will keep you awake for weeks. Also, eat linch at the oldest restaurant in the city(I can't think of it's name but tour operators and taxi drivers will know)and don't worry about the bill. I had 2 beers, chips, ham and cheese on french and my wife had bottled water and a large salad and when I got my Visa bill it was $11.20.
Have a great trip and enjoy the city.
