If you are thinking of cruising on the SS Norway, especially for the first time, I've found a great page of tips! However, don't let them put you off, they just tell it how it really is...

Thank you for this link. I am leaving in the AM for the 2-day cruise to nowhere, followed by a 7-day in Sept with a large group. Wanted to check "her" out before the group goes. Will let you know my impressions as we have never been on the "Norway".

Thanks again

Hello Fred,

Glad Mr. Slate is giving you some time off.

Wilma, Barney and Betty coming too?

On the Norway avoid the Great Outdoor Cafe during lunch hours. It gets mobbed. It usually serves pizza, hamburgers, etc.

In the sports bar, there is a different ethnic buffet every day. It is less crowded and the people/conversations are more interesting

NCL has a good youth program for Pebbles and Bamm Bamm.

At 4pm there is a classical concert in the Club Internationale which is very nice.

The original parts of the ship-when she was the France have the George Jetson look.

Flintstone, have a good trip! I look forward to your opinions!

She has an 'interesting' mix of pro's and con's! Desirod is right, the 'Great Outdoors' can be a nightmare.

The 'Great Indoors' (Room Service) is a better option!

Where to begin...As a first timer on the Norway, I had no point of reference on her condition before renovations. Our cabin DEFINATELY had not been refurbed. I did notice a HUGE difference in room sizes...even within the same category...ours being slightly larger than my closet! The public rooms were nice; however, and all had EXCELLENT entertainment. The Great Out was most definately a nightmare at lunchtime..but I'm glad to hear there are alternatives for Sept. Several repeaters on board raved about the Norway during a regular 7-day compared to the weekend which was mostly Miami locals and their 2.5 million children..UGH!! Over the whole weekend much work was still continuing...ripped out carpet was being thrown in the hallways..elevators blocked off for painting..etc. Overall...biggest complaint with Norway is room sizes and elevators that are completely USELESS!! Still looking forward to going in a group in Sept.

Thanks to all for your input!!

Thanks Malcolm - a good site. Interesting to note that the 'negatives' were not glossed over - never been on the ship but from what I've heard and read, it's an honest write up.

On port days, I recommend getting up early to get a tender ticket. It is first come first serve.

Great Stirrup Cay has a beautiful nature trail and some ruins from the 2nd World War.
