It's the Ocean Monarch of Shaw Savil Lines; the former Empress of England, built for Canadian Pacific in 1957 and served with Shaw Savil from 1970-1975.

Two "Ocean Monarchs" in 1957?

My wife and I sailed on our honeymoon in November 1957 aboard the "Ocean Monarch" of Furness Lines, NYC to Bermuda.

The ship looks like our ship, although I would have to dig our cards and pix to be sure.

Shaw Savill? Furness?

Clarification please.

Hi Cambodge...the Ocean Monarch in the pix is the ex Empress of England. The CPR sold her to Shaw Savill on 3rd.April 1970. She did some cruises from the UK then was sent to New Zealand and on to Australia. Which would be when the pix was taken. She evidently had a lot of mechanical and crew problems and was withdrawn from service and on the 13th June '75 left for scrapping in Kaohsiung.
The previous Ocean Monarch was the one that Furness Withy built for the Bermuda run.

Thanks Peter...

Now what was the fate of "our" Ocean Monarch?

I am sure long gone by now.

Your Monarch was built in 1951 to replace the Monarch of Bermuda which had burned out whilest being converted after the war - she became an immigrant ship called 'New Australia' and you could go for 10 pounds fare.
The new one was sold in '67 and became the 'Varna'. With a name like that Patrick probably has it in his lists somewhere...and AJL will have a pix for us.

The NEW AUSTRALIA was sold in 1958 to the Greek Line and was renamed ARKADIA and was used on the North Atlantic routes until 1966.

The OCEAN MONARCH sold to Bulgaria in 1967 and renamed VARNA. In 1979 she was sold to Greek interests and during a refit in 1981, when she was expected to enter service as REINA DEL MAR, she caught fire and was towed to deeper waters and sunk.

Best regards

It seems that Furness had a lot of bad luck with fires on those liners. The first one built in 1928 caught on fire alongside in Bermuda in 1931 and was towed back to Belfast to the builders, Workman Clark, for repairs. Nearly finished, she caught fire again and was written off as a CTL. On the way to the breakers she went aground.
