With the U.S. on such "high security" alert, can some of our friends in Europe and other parts of the world tell us how well and safe it is in their part of the world. Most of the cruise lines operating from the U.S. that are deploying ships around the world are "pulling back" and sailing closer to home for 2002. Are Europeans afraid to travel to the U.S. or Caribbean? Thanks for any responses.

Regards...Bob

No, i would not be afraid of going to US.
The Security Standard in Europe was higher than in US on Airports before the Terrorist Attack.
If US (and allied) Action starts in Afghanistan this night or tomorrow, i think we see some more terrorist attacks.

But nobody knews if they are in Europe
or US, so there is no Reason, not to go to US. I think, in Safety there is at the Moment no Difference. Nobody can guarantee for Safety.

Our government which lets in the Country all the Bullshit from round-the-world is now waking up and will look more on Safety.

US Airport Control was good for Transcontinental flights, but remember, they Hijacked inland flights.

Remember, the Hijackers live in Hamburg, some of them, as Students, and they are good Students who had no Contact with our Police.
They are legal in our Country, and then move to US to learn how to handle an Aircraft.
At this time, they are legal in US.

There must be an Network with a lot of Money.

It is a dilemma, that the Origin of this people is from Countries, which are Friends of the US (Saudi Arabia or Egypt, for Example).

Best to do is to enjoy Cruising. An bomb can hit you in your Country, or in Europe. So it is equal to stay at home or go into Holidays.

Better go into Holidays...

I think CruisTalkers can guess my response by now, but as you've asked the question, I will give my personal opinion.

The tragic terrorism attack on NY proves that you are not even safe in the financial capital city of the world's foremost superpower! Remember that in Europe, the UK and Ireland we have lived with terrorism for decades. There have been periodic incidents in London and of course Ireland, all of my life.

Although we have never seen anything on the scale of the NY tragedy, we have probably lost as many souls over the years, in small acts of terrorism. O.K. you can argue that our incidents are isolated ones, but innocent people have still died! Even today, If you visit London, you will not find a single garbage bin on our 'tube' (subway) stations. This was because they were being used to plant bombs.

You cannot hide from terrorists. You cannot simply stay at home, in case they strike again. A bomb can be planted anywhere, in any street, on any vehicle and in any country! Of course you can try to minimise the risk - but to completely cease international travel is unnecessary and allows the terrorist to win, by simple spreading 'terror'!

Afghanistan is not an Arab nation. It is not even in the Middle East. I personally would be perfectly happy to visit Europe and the popular Mediterranean Ports of call. I would also be happy to visit America, NY included or the Caribbean, and why shouldn't I? Am I more at risk In NY, Rome or Cozumel, than if I stayed in London? No one can really answer that question.

As I understand it, the Cruise Lines are generally altering their itineraries NOT for reasons of safety or security. They are altering them in response to the fear (unfounded in most cases) that is now keeping American tourists at home.

Some American friends who departed the SS Norway in Southampton, to fly back to NY, told me that they were impressed with the UK's Airport security measures. In fact they said that they hoped that the USA would adopt them with equal efficiency.

I'm probably wasting my breath. I told American's on this board a few moths back that they would not catch 'Hoof and Mouth' if the visited Europe or ate our beef. Never the less they still stayed away in their millions! Once again the Media has helped spread 'fear' rather than 'facts' throughout America.

If I could get more time off work, I'd certainly be taking advantage of the unprecedented discounts currently available fly or cruise to both Europe and America.

Thanks for answering; just so you know, not all Americans are naive enough to think that ingesting beef can give you "hoof and mouth" disease. My question regarding safety and security was asked out of my own curiosity, not fear. I'm cruising at the end of October and agree that allowing terrorists to control us by fear and manipulation gives them what they want. I will never allow murderers or fanatics to affect what I cherish or believe. Having terrorism affect my country is a new and sombering experience to Americans. We will cope and deal with it, but now know what much of the rest of the world has had to face. It certainly has opened our eyes. Thanks for your insight.

Regards...Bob
