Hello Patrick,
There are some corrections that I would like to do on your post.
The official owner of FUNCHAL is Great Warwick Co.The ship managers are Arcalia Shipping and the cruises are sold under the banner of the Classic International Cruises.
The ship is now registered in the Portuguese International registry, her port of registry being the Madeira island.
The change of registry occured during a call in Lisbon in the now closing month of September.

FUNCHAL: What a 'great' little liner/cruise ship.
After 40 years of service she's still up for the business, making her the most sucessfull of all the former Portuguese liners.
While other Portuguese liners of that time were scrapped or laid-up for long periods, FUNCHAL was always active, making money and providing her passengers with pleasant cruising experiences with a Portuguese touch.
When built she was considered as being one of the best looking little liners ever built and her original lines are still visible after 40 years and some minor exterior changes.
Between 1961 and 1974 she acted several times as the Portuguese presidential yacht on voyages to the Portuguese islands of Madeira and Azores and in one very special to Brasil when she took the president and the urn of D. Pedro II, the first emperor of Brasil.
The 'heart transplant', her troublesome turbine engines were replaced by diesel engines, and cruise ship transformation she went through in Holland in 1972/1973 ensured her survival.
Arcalia Shipping, and the owner George Potamianos, owe her current success to the years FUNCHAL was the only ship on the fleet, the profit from that period ensuring the expansion of the fleet.
Her current Portuguese international registry guaranties that the 'Verde-Rubra', the Red and Green, floats once more on her flag mast after her departure to the Panamanian register in 1985.

I would like to say that not only the glamorous "Funchal" is presently cruising with Portuguese/ Madeira flag, but also this month the Arcalia's Shipping Company "Arion" changed his homeport to Portuguese flag, moreover,later this year, the company's third cruise ship- "Princess Danae" will also change her homeport registry to Madeira.Long live the Portuguese flag!!!!
