Hi!

I wonder how often cruise ships usually make dry docknings? For example how often do the big cruise companies like Carnival, H-A, Celebrity, NCL and Princess make them??

I'm not positive but I believe most ships have a "wet dock" every year. This is a time out of service, usually a week, when the ship is cleaned and repaired without removing it from the water. "Dry docks" occur every other year to inspect the underwater hull and do more extensive maintainance. Other service may be required if unexpected repairs are needed, like what happened to the Millinnium last year.

Class rules usually mean you have to drydock twice every 5 years.

Obviously lines don't want to do more drydockings than absolutely necessary.

Wetdocks - to do non-hull maintenance - are typically once per year.

Fresh water American ships, such as the DELTA QUEEN, are pulled for dry docking once every five years by law. Each year the U.S.C.G. will give her, and her ilk, a thorough inspection before reissuing a Certificate of Inspection, which can be pulled during the year for major safety violations. As with other ships the company will perform major work during an annual lay up each winter.
