Hoping, with so many HAL fans, that someone has sailed on the Amsterdam and would share their experience.

Haven't sailed on her yet but hear she is a beautiful ship. We are booked for November 10th cruise - but who knows what will happen. Feeling a bit jittery about flying to Miami. We will just wait and see.

I was aboard last October during her intro-
duction to the east coast. She is a beauty.
I prefer the dining room and show lounge on
the Rotterdam VI, but the rest is a toss up.
I know you will enjoy her. Happy cruising.

Thanks so much for the replies. We have booked the Nov 23rd cruise so I believe that is the reverse of your schedule, Sympatico. I would have loved to spend a few days in Costa Rica, at the end of the cruise, but can't afford the time. Our TD assured me that it is a "lovely two hour drive to the airport and a good chance to see some of the countryside".

The one negative I have read is an account of some passengers having their luggage tampered with when they flew in to Costa Rica. The one writer said that her bags had their locks broken off and some small things taken. Another had, foolishly, packed more valuables in her bags and they were taken. Fortunately, I have never had a problem with theft from luggage, and would not normally give it a second thought, but have heard it can happen almost anywhere.
As for air travel, I am not overly concerned (probably will be as the time draws closer). I would like to think the morons responsible for the attacks are now running scared.

What kind of excursions are you thinking of?

Marbella - think I confused you on this one. I am sailing on the Zaandam, Nov. 20th. I was supposed to have been on theAmsterdam last week but had to cancel and now I am glad I did. I may have been "walking" home from Montreal or taking a bus or train.
I have only been to Costa Rica as a port of call so. When we stopped in Puerto Caldera we were going to to the trip to San Jose, but that was an all day thing, so we opted for a tour to Sarchi and enjoyed this. The next time we were there we docked in Limon - the hottest must humid place I have ever been. Took an old train (which I understand is no longer running) to a banana plantation. Our return trip was by bus. Again enjoyed this trip also. Only problem was while on the train it started to rain, making it more humid and some ladies who "didn't want to get their hair wet", kept closing the windows as the rain was coming in on them - that made it even more humid.
Costa Rica is a beautiful country with lush vegetation.
I never put valuables in my luggage - these always go in my carry on. Have never heard of anyone having the locks on their bags broken in CR.
Enjoy!
