This is something that only you can decide. Personally I would not cruise without a balcony but there are others who would prefer to take an inside cabin and spend the money they saved somewhere else. I have sailed on the Voyager (sister ship) and we had a balcony and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I agree with DianaD. A balcony is nice to have, especially on long voyages. I was on the Explorer of the Seas in April. We had a balcony room and used it quite a bit.

Regarding the ship itself, it is quite spectacular. I highly recommend the evening show, "History Repeating" as well as the Ice Show. The Royal Promenade is quite a marvel, and the Cafe Promenade serves great snacks - pizza, sandwiches and deserts. Keep in mind that it gets very busy right after the bingo crowd is out. One of my favorite spots was the Solarium area; and both of my adult daughters who were cruising with me, enjoyed the main pool area - the entertainment there is great! Don't miss Johnny Rockets for a burger and shake. Check out the decor in the disco and the glass floor at the exit to the Casino. My favorite port of call was the private island.

I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time. Let me know if you need more info. Bon Voyage!

ksw9900:

We sailed Explorer in Feb. and it was our best cruise to date. One reason was because of our balcony room in the rear of the ship. These balconys are not very private but are quite large and the props churning up the Caribbean waters is very beautiful. Only one problem, its going to be difficult to cruise without a balcony.

It can also depend on where you are cruising. We usually take an outside with out balcony, don't like inside, but when we went thru the Panama Canal, our TA suggested the balcony. The day we went thru the canal (all day) it was wonderful. Ordered breakfast and had it on the balcony, it was very hot and while others were standing all day in the sun, we just relaxed. Went on deck once and came back down and when the rain hit in the afternoon and everyone on deck drowned we stayed nice and dry. If you are going to be at sea a lot, you may not miss it.
