Hi! I just photographed her in the port of Piraeus last saturday. I will put the pics into this topic when I get them in a week or so. The Silver Star's operator is Mano Maritime.

Please check this topic posted in CruiseTalk earlier this year about her: Silver Star

The SILVER STAR was build in 1964 as the BASHKIRIYA. It was the last one of a series of 19 identical sisterships of the famous ARMENIYA-series, build at MTW yards in Germany.
It was cruising for the Black Sea Shipping Company, Odessa many all its life, before being transfered to the privated subisidiary Odessa Sun Ltd. and renamed ODESSA SONG. Later it featured also the name ROYAL DREAM before registerated under the ownership of BLASCO's Silver Star Shipping Company in Odessa. A charter-contract with Mano Maritime Ltd. was signed and the ship is cruising mainly for Israelian passengers in the Mediterranean Sea. Don´t expect any luxury onboard even though this ship has had the chance for an extensive refurbishment program. But if you don´t mind to cruise with Israelian passengers only, you can enjoy this cruise in a very familiar ambiance with good food and friendly service. I would give her 2 stars.
The fleetmate THE IRIS (a sistership of PALMIRA and PALOMA), also under Mano-operations, although is a far better unit which was entirely refurbished and provides a 3+ star level.

Patrick,

Did you mean that the BASHKIRIYA was the last built of the series? She's not the last surviving one, as the WANG FU (ex-TADZHIKISTAN) and the TALLINN (ex-SVANETIYA) still exist as well. Especially the TALLINN is very interesting, as she still looks original (from the outside, anyway)

Cheers,

Ralph
