Today I was onboard the Carnival Spirit, with the best possible guide, Mr. Michael Storari, also known as Ryndam here in CruiseTalk. He showed me the whole ship from the public areas to the engine room.

In my taste, her decoration is somewhat terrible, but I guess it's the "American style" which the Americans like. We, Michael and me, couldn't stand the it. But, not everywhere it's horrible, there are some places which are very nice, and I can tell you, that the suites and cabins are very beautiful and well designed. If you go to this ship, and you are a tall person, watch your head, it's possible to hit it to the ceiling, they are on very low level in the corridors.

Please go to this link to see the pics, which are very big and may load a long time if you haven't got a fast connection:

Regards
AJL

P.S. Once again, thank you so very much Michael, for helping me and showing me the ship!! I appreciate it more than the words can say!! And, as I said today; have a wonderful vacation!

Yuck - what a horrible interior. That one picture looks like a child has taken paint brushes each with a different colour of paint and just flicked them. Who thinks up these colours, statues, etc? I have never seen anything so gross

I'm not so swayed to say that the interiors look ugly. I actually liked the use of wood paneling, and the intricate design of the sofas in the show lounge...more like a club atmosphere. An the atrium was interesting too, which made me think of the many temples in India which are very ornate. I was glad to see that Carnival also had the glass "steps of faith" so to speak, just as the Costa ship had. Thanks so much for the photos, I've been really waiting to see photos of the interiors!

I like the casino and the dining room. The artwork is a bit much, but the glass staircase is fascinating. It was also interesting to see the red glow from the funnel/atrium skylight. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is a significant change for Carnival. I don't think any of their other ships are decorated in a particular style -- before it's been themes (Like the Triumph's Cities of the World, or the Victory's OCeans of the World).

I wouldn't necessarily call this "American Style". Contrary to popular belief, not all Americans go for this. I sailed Carnival 20 years ago and found even then there's much more to cruising than Carnival. It's a good product I guess for it's market but we don't all like it. I much prefer HAL, P&O, NCL, the old Sitmar, ...and even had the opportunity to try Seabourn. I have no desire to go back to Carnival..even to try any of the new ships!

I think that the Spirit isn't so terrible as many of us have described. The interior layout is very similar to those of the Costa Atlantica:in December I have much enjoed the two weeks onboard.I think that the Atlantica is a great ship for Costa and that the coloured lounges are fascinating and far better than the austere atmosphere of the Classica.About Carnival I think that all its recent ships are great:the company has never sold its cruise product claiming european charme and old world elegance, but it's famous for the "Fun Ships" concept.I think that I'll sail on the Spirit when I'll decide to cruise to Alaska.Just another observations:Celebrity Cruises acclaims its product for charme and elegance but I think that the new Millenium is simply ridicoulous with its multicoloured hull(white, blue, red and even yellow).Instead all the Canival ships includig the older ones have a nice and also classic livery.

Just wanted to inform that after some couple hours of work I added 75 pictures more of her, now 22 exterior and 53 interior pics. In my opinion, these new pics present lot nicer parts of the ship, which decoration is not that wild. The best place to start is this:

First I wanted to thank AJL for posting the pictures. My wife and I are going on the Spirit in Sept. from Vancouver to Hawaii and these pictures (plus all the other new ones popping up)just make our anticipation grow even more!

Second...I wanted to ask all you cruisers why you would down a ship or not want to even go on it just because some of the colors, art work and decorations are a little wild? Isn't the purpose of going on a cruise to enjoy the sea, to enjoy the adventure of going to different places instead of vacationing in 1 spot for a whole week or 2? Shouldn't you at least try something before you paint (no pun intended)a dismal picture?

Call me crazy (and many people have!), but they could paint my butt purple, the walls pink and make me take one of the gaudy paintings home as a parting gift and it wouldn't faze me a bit! In 166 days, I'm going to be on a plane heading for Vancouver and then spending the next 15 days (we're spending a couple extra days in Hawaii), sailing the sea and enjoying 4 beautiful and tropical islands!

Wear sunglasses and pretend you're color blind!!

Aloha!

well! what can i say about this ship!

i certainly didn't know that th lastest craze for the cruising companys is to shoo them away everywhere they turn, from looking at the brochures to the first looks onboard.

Anyway thats good, more business for P&O Cruises! The exterior though doesn't look that terrible!

Thanks so much for the pictures! I will be on the Spirit Oct 20 going through the Canal. I think the interior looks quite interesting - can't wait to see it in person.

I have been on Carnival twice before and had an incredible time. I know others don't think much of this line, but I really don't have anything bad to say. I have also been on RCI, NCL, HAL, & Celebrity, and have never had a bad cruise. I would certainly not let the interior or exterior designs determine whether or not I would sail a certain ship.
