I have searched everywhere for the original topic about this particular cruise but to no avail,Joe,so here goes nothin'!!

Just had a call from a crew member of the MAASDAM.During our conversation,I asked him about the February cruise that was completely booked by gays and lesbians. He was very surprised that I knew about it and I explained that it was common knowledge on our Internet forum.
His comment about this particular cruise was...."Terri,it was a nightmare cruise and I was so glad when it was over.I heard that they will be taking over one of the Carnival ships next time!!"

Folks,I won't go into what he said about the formal nights....you can use your own imagination

Terri

I was on QE2 sailing from NY on July 3 1999. It was a seven day cruise to Bermuda, Nassau and Newport News. This voyage had two large groups. One was about 3-400 steamship enthusiasts (thus the stop in Newport News).

The second was a group of 200 gay men. Just to put the trip in perspective I brought my (then) 7 year old son and 10 year old daughter along.

The only problem I heard about was on the first night some passengers objected to men dancing toghether in one of the night clubs. (They may have also displayed some affection.) Then next night the deck near one of the pools was set up as a night club for their use.

I heard of and saw no other problems.

Now - if the entire ship was chartered it may have gotten a bit more frisky. But like hotel staff, cruise ship staff get exposed to some things that most of us choose to ignore.

It goes with the job.

So what, Terri, big deal! I bet the crew was just fine with taking their tip money. When I was Purser on the STR. BELLE OF LOUISVILLE my staff wanted to work the gay cruises because the passengers were such good tippers! Gay cruises didn't seem to bother my father either who was Chief Engineer onboard for more than one. Unlike some of the straight cruises, we never had to use the old U.S. Coast Guard mandated jail aboard during any gay cruise we worked!

The last thing that this forum needs to become is another way to bash gays. I'm sick of it!

Excuse me for breathing!!! I was not bashing anybody....straight or gay....some of my best friends are gay!!
I was just following up on a thread from way back because I thought open-minded folk like most of us on this forum, would like to hear an opinion from someone who has to be nice to everyone if he is to keep his job! Surely he has a right to his own opinion just like the rest of us!

I sure didn't mean to offend anyone and if I did then I apologize

Joe,please feel free to delete this post if you think I am gay-bashing.For the record, nobody complained about the original post about these particular cruises.Just wish I could find the thing!!

Terri
