We're cruising with NCL for the first time on the norwegian Sun's inaugural voyage. I've read mixed reviews on NCL but am hoping this ship will be better than others in the fleet - any views?

Hi elenor. Most cruise lines and ships get mixed reviews. In fact it is amazing how people can view the same 'product' so differently.

In my opinion, cruising on a new ship is always a treat!

Have you seen the Travelpage 'Readers Reviews' for the NCL ships? Some folks rate the experience as 4 or 5 star. You can't get much better than that, unless you want to pay an arm and a leg!

NCL offers an excellent cruise product, particularly tailored for younger passengers. The cuisine is very good(you have absolutely to try the Bistrot) and also the entrateinment with Las Vegas Productions. The Norwegian Sun is a good ship but the cabins are very small so I suggest you to reserve a category with a private balcony.NCL has a loyal following also in Italy for its excellent international assistance services.Have an excellent cruise!

I would be surprised if a newbuild had "very small" cabins? On most (all?) newbuilds even the cheapest inside cabins are perfectly adequate, and positively spacious compared to earlier ships.

Of course Italian Cruiser is right, a suite with a private balcony is always nice, but not an essential. You may well find that on a mega-ship you only use your cabin to sleep in?

Malcolm,

I have read reviews/complaints about the size of the cabins of the Norweign Sky on another sight. This seems to be the biggest complaint about this ship. The mini suites are supposed to be VERY small. Storage space is very limited according to some of reviews. It does seem strange that a new ship would have such limited space.

Thanks for the info. I have heard that the Sky's cabins are small but the Sun is supposedly making the cabins larger - let's hope they do! We've booked a balcony suite but it's more the service and food quality that NCL seems to get critisised about. Also, freestyle cruising is said to be a farce as you can never get into the popular dining rooms. Any other feedback would be appreciated. Cheers. Elenore

The Norwegian Sky will probably have similar cabins to those of the Sky for these reasons:the Sky was originally committed by Costa Crociere as a sister ship of the Costa Victoria, but the company refused to take delivery of the half finished hull after the bancaruptcy of the Bremen Vulkan Yards.NCL acquired and completed the vessel adding many balconies to the cabins but choosing the same small modular type of cabins of the Costa Victoria(infact the dimension are identycal, only the layout is different). Also the public areas are very similar on both ships,so I think that the Norwegian Sun has a similar layout.

On the Norwegian Sea Cabin size starts with 10,2 square meters,
on the Nortwegian Sky with 11,2 square meters.

This is small.

For example, the Mercury has 16 and the Costa
Romantica 17 square meters in the cheapest
inside category.
