Hi everyone,

I just read this brief article in the Taiwan News (local English daily newspaper)
Please note that the article has a $$amount of US$8.5 million. Perhaps it is a misprint.
Whether any of this is true, I do not know. I am only passing this on as a curiosity.

I Quote
4March 2001
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras

"The government announced that it has approved construction of a massive, luxurius floating city that would sail around the world with up to 90,000 permanent residents.

The Florida-based company Freedom Ship International received the go-ahead to start building the US$8.5 million project in the bay of Trujillo, on Honduras' Atlantic coast 250 kilometers north of the capital, Tegucigalpa.

When completed, the ship will be more than 1 kilometer long, 230 meters wide and 105 meters high.

The floating city will include hospitals, hotels, shops, restaurants, barber shops, casinos, supermarkets and even a landing strip for jets, the developers say. It will employ 15,000 employees, and shelter 90,000 permanent residents."

So, do you all think I should start making plans to open a branch of my restaurant onboard?!!!

Or perhaps wait until Titanic II is sailing?

Bye,

Mike

Mike, I've heard about this concept before. Maybe it will really happen? There is a wen site for it somewhere?

I remember reading that it would not need life-boats, because it would be so big, it could not sink! Now where have I heard that before?

All I have to say is "I'll believe it when I see it". 8.5 million would even build a medium sized ship these days....Probably 8.5 BILLION. It's a goofy utopian idea, and I have my doubts that it would ever be built but who knows????

But as you say Malcolm, who knows, maybe it can happen.

Mike

To Barryboat,
You're right about the 8.5 billion.
On a 4d/3n cruise my bar bill usually exceeds 8.5 million!!!
Regards,
Mike

I saw something about this on tv several months ago. You have to have a certain net worth (and I can't remember what it was since it was far more that I'll ever have) and I believe at that time it was by invitation only (trying to keep the riff-raff away LOL) don't know if they'll have enough "invitees" take the bait or not.

Welcome aboard 02cruise !

Yeah, you and me both concerning not having the money "they" want and require. But, I will certainly like to visit one of their bars and buy drinks for all the "un touchables" and get them pissed, and then really show them what riff-raff is!!!
(probably, they will have the best time of their lives!!!)
But of course, they must have body guards and all that crap. But I don't care! I'll still try!!!

Keep posting,Regards,
Mike
