I've read this on the news.

Does anyone know which ship it is ?

They said that 1000 passengers and crew are now being rescued by a Ferry.

I think that should be the Mistral that operates two different cruises of 7 days from Pointe a Pitre(Guadalupe). The only other Festival ship operating in the Caribbean area is the Bolero.Perhaps the greek officers drinked too much ouzo!(when I cruised on the Aegean Dolphin in 1991 the captain at each port of call runs into a taverna).I hope that the passengers weren't injured.

It must be a bad day at sea! I believe that last year 2-20-00 a ship ran aground. I believe it was the old song of Americia we saw it in Cozumel. I did not see by the article Mercy pointed out if it was leaking any thing to the sea. Hope not. Kevin

The article said the ship was taking on 2,400 gallons of water per hour. It sounds serious, and they are evacuating the passengers by farries to St.Kitts. Thankfully the ship is only about 900 feet from shore.

Sounds like Festival will have quite a mess on their hands, and major losses in revenue while the ships is repaired.

Mistral was floated off the sandbank at 06.45 assisted by tugs and will continue her itinerary later today. Repairs of the hull will be done en route.

hey,
It says at www.festivalcruises.com that the ship was traveling at 7 knots and barely woke up any passengers. Why was she going that slow??

Sent to me by a friend along with a report on the Patriot's latest mishap.
MISTRAL refloated
Feb 21, 20001: MISTRAL has been refloated St. Kitts & Nevis. Two locally-based tugs stationed in St. Eustace island, succeeded in pulling the vessel off the sandbank at 4 a.m. and she continued her cruise with the next port of call being Antigua. Festival strongly refuted one or two media reports that suggested the ship was taking on board water and passengers were having to be rescued. "This is inaccurate, bordering on irresponsible."
MISTRAL aground update
Feb 21, 20001: MISTRAL ran aground at 2 a.m. loacl time on 2/20/01 just off the Caribbean island of St. Kitts & Nevis. No passengers were injured. The ship is now reported to be stuck on a sand bank 900 feet offshore. The passengers were spent Tuesday night on the ship, and authorities hoped rescue crews could free the vessel from the sand bank Wednesday today. In today's report MISTRAL was carrying 530 crew and 1,130 passengers, mostly French, German, British and Italian. One report said taht the ship was taking on some water in the bow section, but only in a watertight bulkhead and was no cause for alarm. Divers were investigating the damage but said they could not make a proper assessment until the ship is towed clear of the obstruction.
