Just read an article about the Radiance of the Seas. We will be sailing on her in Sept. so I am very interested. I was surprised to find out, that the alternative dining steak house, is going to have a whopping $20. fee! Now $25. for the Olympic was bad, but twenty for a steak house? Seems to me the cruise lines are trying everything they can to get into our pockets more and more once they get you on the ship. I think we will forgo the steak house on this one! If you want to read the article, I attached the link. The African theme in the solarium sounds amazing!!! Can't wait to see it! http://www.sltrib.com:80/02182001/travel/71549.htm

Mercy, thanks for posting the article. Looks like we'll also be forgoing the steak house when we sail on 3/26. I doubt that my 11 year old daughter would appreciate a steak that comes with a $20 surcharge.

$20.00 extra for a steakhouse???? Who are they kidding????? I think they will change their minds on that one.... or change the steakhouse to something more upscale.

I don't ever eat steak on a cruise ship when I can get the best meat in the country right here in Denver. Alternative dining such as that is a waste of space on a cruise ship.

If no one went into these alternate dining room that have the surcharge maybe the cruise line would change it. Look what happened to Johnny Rockets on VOTS.

I am new to this site and did not mean to end my message yet. I am not surprised to hear about the surcharge, but I am dissapointed that they are doing it. I will be sailing on her on 4/23 and will but my 2 cents worth on the comment card. I will also be sailing on her again in Sept.

Blizzard.. we are also from the Seattle area (Stanwood). We will be doing the Victoria/Vancouver three night Sept. 21! Let us all know how your April cruise goes and how you liked the ship, staff etc.! We booked the Infinity for 2002, but might jump ship to the Radiance if we like it. We were on the Millennium in Jan. and really liked that ship.
The problem with posting links from newspaper articles, they expire really fast! Sorry.

After sailing on the Rapsody and Vision last year I jumped at taking the coastal on the Radiance (even sprung for a balcony). The 3/4 day trips out of Seattle are a nice break. We did both last May. I will report on the Radiance when I get back in May. I will be sailing on it again just before you do. (9/17)

Alternative dining or should it be called alternative funding. I hope all of the lines realize that their popularity comes from the fact that everything is basically included. If you look at their advertisements they are emphatic about this point.

Their clientele is building but keep this up and they won't be able to build enough scrap yards to handle the surplus of cruise vessels that will be turned into razor blades.
