I recently considered sailing on the Melody,
with the Mediterranean Shipping Cruise Lines,
Thet offer a great 12 day cruise from FT. Lauderdale. They even have a great price to sail single without having to bring my own food and sleep in a life boat throughout the cruise. Has anyone sailed aboard hrer or her cruiseline. The web posting favor good reponses towards her and her service. I will decide to sail on her this week for the sailing dates of March 31, 2001. Anyone one thinking of joining me? A 12 day cruise single costs $1245 including port charges.
I was also concidering the Regal Empress, 10 days for $907 including port charges. I sailed on her before and rather have taken a cruise on a ship new to me. The Regal Empress was the COmmodores Ms. Caribe in the early 80's. I live in Miami so I could save the gas traveling to Tampa and possiblly the parking fees if I can bum a ride to Ft. Lauderdale. I am not cheap now, but $10 to $12 a day isn' a bargain to park. I can use the extra dough to gamble or as a down payment on my next cruise.

Try the Melody! The ship is far better than the Regal Empress. The layout is very similar to those of the Sky Princess(both ships were built at the same yard). The cabins are very large and the service is warm and attentive. The cuisine is fine with plenty of typical italian dishes. The entrateinment is very good. Also the tips required aren't too much expansive.Good Cruise!

Alan
I too, am considering the Melody on the 31st.
Just found a price that is fantastic. However
I would like to hear from some of her passengers. Have a concern re the deck space
as I read in a review that there isn't a lot.
There are four days at sea, should I be concerned? Also forgive me, it's late & I don't even have a brochure yet. Could anyone advise as to dress code (#of formal nights, etc) I have been on three cruises. As to your request, Alan, sorry, travelling from Toronto with husband in tow! Wish you luck!

On the Melody the open deck space is quite limited because only the after pool area is equipped for sunning(in the midship pool covered by a magrodome there are only table and chairs). The dress code is mostly casual with only two formal nights.

THANK YOU!!! Malcolm and Italian cruiser.
As I mentioned we have taken a few other cruises, one of which was on the Zenith to Bermuda. Would give that cruise a 5 star rating. Shared our table with an American couple and a Belgium couple and had an absolutely wonderful time (not to mention our fantastic wait staff from Portugal & Kosovo). Love going to Europe (been several times) and took a coach tour (never again)last summer of several European countries BUT the thought of spending 12 days on a cruise ship with pushy, rude people does not interest me at any price! Will continue to shop around.
I would still be interested in hearing of your experience Alan.

Sorry, felt I had to add from where I received my impressions of the Melody. I logged on to ratings listed by passengers. The theme seemed to be inconsistent food, very poor entertainment, and confusion where languages were concerned. The comments on this thread are certainly positive. Thanks again, this is much better than most travel agents.
