I take back all the bad feelings I had about Celebrity Cruise Lines, when I found out that we would miss several hours in port on our Jan. 21 cruise. My travel agent called me to tell me that we were upgraded by Celebrity! We booked a Oceanview and were upgraded to a veranda! This is without complaining. I don't know if it had anything to do with the change ,probably not. This is the second time we have been upgraded in three Celebrity cruises! Do other lines do this. It has never happened to us on RCCL, Carnival or Norwegian? Anyone else get a surprise?

In 1998 I booked the 'cheapest grade' on the Mercury, an inside cabin. When we boarded we were put in an Ocean view - I like this policy, great stuff!

Mercy: If you just booked a cabin and had a room # then got upgraded you are definetly one lucky woman. Here is what I know about upgrades. We have been upgraded on all but one of our cruises we have taken. Each cruise line has their own criteria on how they award upgrades. It has been our experience to book a cat guarentee or run of the ship (inside or outside). Upgrades have been from just one deck up to a suite. On HAL & NCL ( Mairiners $ Latitudes) they put there past cruisers ahead of everyone and booking early ( run of the ship outside) they continue to sell the same cat. or the specfic outside cabins and you move up. On RCI they do not put there past cruisers (crown and anchor) ahead of anyone else when it comes to upgrades. They put all names whom have not gotten a cabin assignment into a computer and the computer draws cabin upgrades. If you want to roll the dice for a further upgrade go to the pursers desk once you have boarded and ask for a courtesy upgrade sometimes they will take you further into luxury. Kevin

K&K,
We booked our cabin 11 months ago! We are Captain's Club Members. But the last time we were on the Mercury we were upgraded also. Then we had sailed with them once before, but were not Captain Club members at that time. We paid for a 6 cat were able to upgrade with Captians Club, early booking and great travel agent to a cat.4 and now we are upgraded to a cat.2C.

Laura, I booked a very long time in advance of our cruise. I assume that we were upgraded so Celebrity could sell the cheaper/popular inside cabins again! Well that's fine with me.

I have never been upgraded on any cruise.
I guess I'm not the high-roller-type.

Even when I book run of the ship, I still get a dark closet. Do you think they upgrade by looks?

I HOPE you didn't just call your wife a PIG , Malcolm!!!!! You are married? Not divorced, yet?
Who knows why anyone gets upgraded. It's a big mystery to me? I would never look a gift horse in the mouth

Hi Folks, we have booked for the march break on the Carnivals Sensation. We have been told by our TA that we will most likely be upgraded. We booked the lowest price which was all we could afford!! but she told us that it was a run of the ship and we would almost surely be upgraded. We are not surewhat to expect but we will be disappointed if we do not get an upgrade. This is only our 2nd cruise and with different companies so they won't know us from "Adam." God only help us if it's on looks alone, We will have to depend on our 16 year old for that!!!!

If upgrades are based on looks, then my wife will get the penthouse suite and I'll be below deck shoveling coal (see, this is how to stay out of the "doghouse" Malcolm
Seriously though, I think most lines may use the upgrades to get "newbies" to become repeat clients. It seems like it's done by lottery sometimes. I know I've only been upgraded when we booked a "guarantee" with Princess, and that was just one catagory.
As long as I'm not in cruise quarters, they can put me anywhere, as long as it's at sea!

Regards...Bob
