What ship(s) do you feel has the most beautiful bow? My personal favorites are the sun/dawn/sea/ocean princess. The bow is a clean and beautiful shape that intergrates smoothly and elegantly with the superstructure and bridge. I hope the new princess ships are as nice (not like the Grand which has a rather ugly nose). Post your picks.

I also think Superstar Leo/Vigro has a very sharp bow and Nordic Empress:

By the way- some very ugly bows: Grand Princess, Norwegian Sky, Costa Victoria, Noordam, Jubilee, Holiday, Celebration.

I've always thought the Royal Princess and the Crystal ships have very nice prows. Of course the QE2 bow I could look at all day.

i have always been a fan of the long clipper bow....seen on fine vessels such as
the royal viking line and the royal carribean cruise line trio (70's).....i can't think of any new vessels sailing the seven seas that have this unique line at the front of the ship.....hmmmm......crystal ships i guess
jeff.

My preference goes to the Italian ships of the 60's that were built by Fincantieri: Oceanic (BRB), Marconi (Costa Riviera)/Galilei (Sun Vista), Eugenio Costa (BRB II).

Between the modern cruise ships I like the Costa Classica and Romantica,Crown and Regal Princess,Norwegian Dream and Wind.In the category of the liners I think that the Stella Solaris has excellent lines.I like also the Costa Riviera(it was better in the old Costa livery with the blue and yellow riband). The best italian liners were the magnificent Andrea Doria and Cristoforo Colombo. The worst bow are those of the Columbus(Hapag)and Deutchland(Dehlman).

I agree with Jeff, the clipper prow given to the ships of the 70's and 80's from Royal Viking and Royal Caribbean were very nice. You can see the gentle curve on this shot of the majesty of the seas, and the Black Watch- former Royal Viking ship.

I really don't like the bow of the Costa Victoria or the Norwegian Sky- both built on the same hull design. It looks like a duck-billed platapus. It is short, flat, and round. Very strange looking.

But perhaps the uglies bow (and ship for that matter) in modern cruise history must go to the new Project America ships being built in Alabama for United States Lines. The picture speaks for itself:

SKYEJ, just a note. The two United States Lines ships are being built at the Ingalls shipyard in Pascagoula, Mississippi.

Your right... my fault. I know there is a shipyard in Alabama- I think Atlantic Marine. Now I recall Senator Trent Lott from Mississippi who was instrumental in getting federal approval for the construction of the new ships and passing some legislation helping American Classic Voyages with the financing of the project.

Here is a shot of not only a great bow, but one of the most handsome new ships sailing today... the Aurora.

Her stern is also very nice...

I agree with those saying the old Royal Viking sisters--they really had classic long lines vs. the boxiness of today.

Norway, that's a great shot of the Norway's bow.

Here's another great bow, albeit in a somewhat less attractive condition:

I agree with skeyj 100%, especially regarding the Aurora, which is a very handsome and elegant ship, in every aspect as far as I'm concerned.

I, too, like the Aurora and the Sun Princess class, although I think the Aurora has a better overall appearance. It's really the stern on the Aurora that gives her the edge.

Hello

I think when you get a view of Aurora at anchor you can really appreciate what a beautiful ship she really is, very nicely balanced. I have some nice photo's but do not know how to post them here.

Cheers
Mary

What's with the white bows. I haven't seen any good looking WHITE buildings lately. I would never drive a WHITE automobile.
Can we get a little more creative with color?
The new Celebrity ships with the black bow and the gold hmmmm. That's nice.
You know, I'll take the military green over a
WHITE ship!!!

I have to disagree with you Paddy. I think the Carnival Destiny and her sisters have nice, if not beautiful, bows. They do not have the elegant look like the Norway or the QE2. However, it flows with the design of the ship. When I went on the Carnival Triumph, I have the opportunity to see the Norway, VOTS, and Triumph docked at Miami. Personally, I think the Triumph has the better looking bow than the VOTS.

just my opinion.
