Leave a week from today on the Maasdam. Looking forward to watching the LOL's (Little old Ladies) wonder where they are on the first day and seem to be just as lost on the last night.

I guess I spend to much time reading the ship diagrams I seem to know how to get from here to there. But then again I walk around the passenger deck I am not even on for fun.

I must say that even if you have a good sense of direction, all those corridors and cabins do look rather similar.

That's probably why the LOL's keep returning each year to the same ship - they don't have to relearn the ropes!

A final thought: all those LOL's on cruise ships are a contant reminder to me that Mens life expectancy is somewhat less

I do not seem to get lost on a HAL ship, but on the Norway, I got lost many times. Once, coming back from shore, we had the usual elevator nightmare, so decided to walk down the corridor and find another elevator. A group of people followed us. We got lost and somehow we found ourseleves in the crew area. We did get to see some of the ship most people never would!

I used to get lost on the Westerdam - never knew if I was going toward the bow or the stern so I would just go and stand where the front office is and look out the window to figure out which way the ship was going and then I could figure out which way I wanted to go!

We had a cabin on the Rotterdam V (725 I think) which could only be reached by the elevator at the back of the stage - talk about confusing! I got lost a couple of times trying to find my cabin and actually nearly missed dinner on the first night. Thankfully we were moved to another much larger cabin during the cruise. The original one was so small 2 of us couldn't be in there at the same time!

My mother and I used to have the same cabin each time on the R-V. We were embarking one time and the steward started going the wrong way. We said, "560 is over here."

Gizmo -- I know what you mean about the Norway. While I love the ship, I felt like I had to leave a trail of bread crumbs to find my way around (and no, I am not LOL!).

You can get lost easy inside the first 3 decks above the waterline. That FreedomShip? Oh... you can really get lost on that thing if it ever gets built!

Also, Bhutan is the only country in the world where a Woman's life expectancy is equal to a Man's.
