For our December cruise we've been assigned a Promenade deck cabin, supposedly an upgrade from regular outside.
Wouldn't we be visible to anyone walking on deck?
We don't want to be part of the shipboard entertainment - too much pressure!

I've seen some prom deck cabins with silvered windows. You can see out, but 'they' cant see in.

I know this because I tried to look in one and to my horror, all I could see was myself!

We had one on our last cruise. During the day nobody can see in unless they put their nose directly on the glass. At night however, it's "SHOWTIME." Remember to close the curtains!!

My husband and I had one on our last cruise together on the Statendam and you could see out but not in unless you pressed your face right up against the window - he tried it. Will have one on my next two cruises. I probably did close the curtains in the evening.
Which ship are you going on and when?

Thanks for the replies.
Sympatico, we will be travelling on the 'Sundream'.
We were on it once before and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
It's not fancy but has a very friendly atmosphere and the itinerary is great -
Costa Rica, Panama Canal, San Blas islands , Cartagena & Curacao.
You say you have booked Promenade deck cabins again. What makes them so special?

Can't speak for the Sundream - never sailed her.
Like sympatico, we're HAL cruisers and for years now have chosen promanade deck cabins - easy access to port or starboard sides.
You can see out but people can't see in. We draw the drapes at night - just like we do at home.

Reminds me of the time that someone was aghast that my mother and I stayed in the same cabin. The guy said, in front of other people, "But what about when you need to undress?" I said, "We just take off our glasses!"

Years ago my cousin & I were sailing on the Oceanic in one of the deluxe cabins overlooking the bow. It had 2 large floor to ceiling windows that, from pierside, appeared to have the reflective coating. One afternoon we were standing in front of those windows watching the crew working on the bow while we changed to go out. When several of them appeared to look in our direction my cousin commented they would be getting quite a show if they could see us. For whatever reason she waved and they waved right back! Needless to say for the rest of the trip we changed our clothes AWAY from the windows.
I havn't trusted the silver reflective coating any cabin window since.

I've pressed my nose on the window too Malcolm - day and night - you're safe on HAL - at least on the newer ships!

Silvering, I understand, may deteriorate - no responsibility for above endorsement accepted......safer you draw the drapes!
