Hi Gerry

We only arrived home last week and it was straight back to work so I have not had a chance to post.

The Seabourn Sun was fantastic! We had a wonderful cruise. As you are aware this was our first cruise on this ship, but it certainly won't be the last. Our cabin was spacious and well appointed. The meals were delicious and our waiters were excellent. They quickly learned our likes and dislikes and ensured that each meal was a great gastronomic experience.

The crew were very friendly and nothing was a trouble to them. The Cruise Director, Alan Greer and Social Host Nicola made the cruise very special.

The entertainment was generally very good (especially the Tea Rose Duo - Gerry is there any chance of getting them on board the QE2 World Cruise from Hawaii to Sydney in January?) and the daily activities were varied so there was something for everyone.

We thought that the ship was beautifully appointed and we loved the Stella Polaris lounge.

The weather was not the best, but there was plenty to do onboard so we just relaxed and enjoyed the ship. The Seabourn Sun is a ship that we have no hesitation in recommending to anyone. We are not the only ones who feel that way as she is entirely booked out for her inaugral World Cruise in 2001. We will be doing an open booking for her in January when we cruise on the QE2. ( By the way, we think that the introduction of the open booking system on Cunardline is an excellent idea.)

As you are aware, we love sailing on the QE2. We could not compare the two ships as they are very different, so we will enjoy sailing on both of them in the future.

"We could not compare the two ships as they are very different". Told you, didn't I?

Glad to hear you had a great time. Can't wait to hear all - and I mean ALL - about it.

An open booking is where you pay a deposit on your next cruise, but you do not have to actually book a specific cruise for up to twelve months.( NB. You do not have to take the cruise within twelve months, just book it). This way you are still entitled to the extra 5% on board discount on your next cruise.

The deposit is different for each country, but as far as I remember it was $500 for Americans. This is a new initiative for Cunardline.

Colin, where did you cruise on her? We would like to visit the Norwegian Fiords on her - what do you think?

Hi Elizabeth, I only just registered here, but we corresponded a few times before you went away - Yes, that Colin.

We sailed around Britain - well, half way round - on RVS in August last year. I think she would be a great ship to do the fjords on. Plenty of forward facing rail, and if the weather turns nasty then just plant yourself in a front seat in the Stella Polaris lounge, camera or binoculars in one hand and a large glass of something to keep out the chill in the other.

Have you started on your review yet?

Hi Colin

My apologies. I could not remember where you sailed on her, however, I found your email this afternoon in which you told me where you cruised.

I am afraid that I have not started my review as yet. As soon as I get all the Christmas cards done I will be able to start.

Just a little piece of trivia. For the first time ever,(or so we were led to believe) there were more Brits on board the Seabourn Sun than Americans. Just thought that you might be interested.

Hi Elizabeth--on the cruise before yours (Sydney-Sydney October 3-17) there were more Aussies than Americans! And they were a great fun group.

Hi Winner

There were only 64 Aussies on board Sydney to San Diego. Did you enjoy the cruise? What was the highlight of the cruise?

Elizabeth - were there any Canadians on board? I am sure a friend of mine was on the Sydney to San Diego cruise. Haven't talked t her since she got back as she has laryngitis and obviously cannot speak on the phone. I will have to check with her as to the dates she was on the ship.

Spoke to my friend after I posted this and she was on this cruise. Said they had a wonderful time and had so much to do that they didn't have time to read their books. She said the visiting chefs were terrific - she took the computer course and got a certificate and went to all the lectures on Polonesian culture.
I asked her about the spa and she said it was magnificent so different from when she sailed on this ship when it was with the Royal Viking Line. Sounds like it was one of her best cruises. You may have even met her, who knows.

Hi Sympatico

We did meet a couple of people from Canada but I cannot remember their names, We actually spoke to them at the cooking demonstrations. If you ask them if they spoke to any Australians who were going to Canada next Easter they will probably remember the conversation.

I heartily agree with your friend re the visiting chefs. We actually cooked one of the recipes the other night and it was delicious.
