This could be quite interesting. Its more than likey they go to their private islands, but personally, my career plan is to get a really high paying job so I can go on cruises all the time. So if any of them are like me, do they cruise on their own ships? And if they don't, why are they good enough for us but not for them? Imagine if Micky Arison was RCI's best customer. Twould be like Richard Branson always flying British Airways. Tehehe.

The Fred.Olsen family often cruise on the Olsen ships. They take over one of the smaller 'alternative' dining rooms.

Richard Branson keeps travelling on Balloons and Speed boats. He obviously does not trust his aircraft!

I've had a great idea - Virgin Cruises, or better still Virgin Sailors (sounds like a follow-up to the movie Virgin Soldiers!)

It would be a nice way to check up on how the service is. I was on a HAL Alaska cruise when one of the Shorex crew was getting on an excursion boat with me. She was dressed like a passenger, not like HAL people do every moment they are in public. She told me she had not taken this particular trip before and wanted to see what it was like, so she could advise the pax. I said, "Checking up on the provider?? Hmmmm?" She smiled and said, "Yes, I am. We want to make sure the pax get what they are paying for." I kept quiet and didn't let on to anyone.

When we were on the Celebration in
Jan. 98, the Ecstacy was coming in
alongside. When I was on the bridge
tour, they said Bob (Hot Shot) Dickenson was on board. They say he
makes Leona Helmsley look like nothing, he gives them ALL sorts of
trouble.

Yes, Kirk Lanterman, CEO of Holland America, does cruise occasionally on HAL. He and his wife were on the Maasdam trans-atlantic crossing this last August. He was also on the last cruise of the ss Rotterdam. His wife has her own travel agency in Seattle...which is a conflit of interest...but no one is able to convince Micky Arison or this!!!!

Probably ok, as it is only a local place and, no doubt, squeaky-clean as far as not railroading people onto HAL. I understand the L's are a wealthy name in the Pacific Northwest ... you won't see them on a lower-deck inside!

Micky Arison is cruising with Carnival regularly, alone or with his family. I don't know if he's cruising with the other lines of the corporation.

tomc...Unfortunately you are incorrect about Mrs. Lanterman's agency being a "local" agency...also about being "squeaky clean". Her agency has the most passengers on the World Cruise (roughly 200) and they are from all over the World.
BTW..looking forward to meeting you next Sept. 7th on the Amsterdam when NAL, Sympatico and I will be sailing!

If I was a CEO I'd probably NEVER cruise (on public ships!) I'd have my own Yacht and Crew

I'd get my staff to cruise, in the cheapest cabins, and report back on standards onboard my ships.

We travelled on Arcadia when it was making its first call at a Spanish port. Lord Sterling, Chairman of P&O, was on board with his daughter. They sat in the dining room at dinner, and you often saw them around the ship and at the disco. One evening, my husband had gone to have a pre-dinner drink while I finished getting ready. I joined him at the bar, he was sitting on a stool and whispered to me that Lord Sterling was just behind him and he had given him the seat he was saving for me - I gave hubby an earful about giving my seat away and I did not care to whom so to shut me up he gave me his seat!!!! .

John and Tina Chandris used to cruise aboard their ships regularly and John loved to interact with the crew.

One of the most innovative things I ever saw was NCL sending their shoreside execs to spend a week aboard ship to work in the capacity of various crew members; Hotel Manager, Asst Cruise Director, Restaurant Manager, etc.

I was never more surprised to walk up to the pursers office to make an inquiry and have a staff member turn around only to be the (then) CEO.
