Nice web site, thanks for posting it emgrace! She is certainly impressive in terms of her scale, as I saw for myself at Southampton.

I think that Explorer's 'floating resort' type of décor is exactly the kind that divides the traditionalists from modernists!
Our 'just boarded' friends might like to take a look at the MS Deutschland's décor? Although she is also a modern ship, the styles and scale of the two ships could not be more different:

One mans meat...as they say!

Sorry Joe! Didn't bother to look.(Bad me!) Malcom, the Deutschland is beautiful. I think it puts Explorer to shame as far as classic elegance goes.My type of ship!

Oh dear, I can feel that I'm going to be controversial again..

I'm always surprised how much enthusiasm is generated in the media and by the general public for each new mega-ship! I always welcome the news of a new ship and the newest are certainly impressive in terms of their statistics. I do not doubt the high level comfort and facilities provided on these new ships, but as for the décor, oh dear!

Now I appreciate that 'taste' is purely a matter of opinion, but I personally would not have hundreds of mirrors, bright orange furniture and carpets with purple swirls in my house! Do cruise lines use Ronald McDonald as their interior design consultant? If I want Las Vegas glitz - I'd go to Las Vegas.

I've seen the QE2, The Norway and now Explorer, all at Southampton. It was certainly the former two ships, which made my heart, beat the fastest! In particular, the Norway's Art Deco style interiors are my idea of good taste.

Oh well, each to their own!

Malcolm, I agree with your comments on the decor styles of these new ships. The magnitude of them is impressive. However, the Las Vegas designs I'm not fond of either. Personally, I feel sorry for the people with seasickness. Those "Purple Swirled" floors must be agony to look at!

Joe or Malcolm

Anywhere else we can see photos of the M.S. Deutschland? I couldn't access. My quess is that the word "addicts" in the web address kicked me out. I'd love to see a newer ship that you all are considering has classic lines.

Thanks, Strat
