We just got back from the 3continent grand cruise on the Olympic Voyager. This ship is very fast, and moves around alot when at sea. I accidently fell against a large print hanging on the waal in our cabin, and the glass covering the print shattered, and shards of glass cut me in three places as it fell out of the frame. we cleaned it up the best we could and went back to sleep. I was cut two more times by glass in the bed. The next day, the print was taken away, and redone in plexiglass and the bed and cabin appeared to be cleaned and serviced. When turning in that night, we discoverd that the blood was still there from the previous night, and the sheets hadnt benn changed either, as they still had tiny peices of razor sharp glass, which, you guessed it, cut me some more. What would you guys do?

If you have photographs and documentation,
complain and ask for a free cruise.

If they don't comply, get a lawyer.

If you have nothing to show your lawyer, buy a box of bandaids and call it good.

While still on board the ship I would have complained to the Purser or chief housekeeper. This may just be a case of a cabin steward not doing his job properly, and the department head would have the opportunity to address the problem. I also think I would have requested a new cabin steward be assigned to my cabin while still aboard the ship.

Now that you are ashore, I would call the line and find out who fields passenger complaints. Get the name of the person you talk to on the phone, too. Send a letter to the designated complaints department, and cc the ship's purser if you know his name. Tell them what happened, and ask that they inform you what steps they are prepared to take to rectify the situation. If you have a family lawyer I would certainly seek additional advice from him and cc the letter to him, even if you don't plan on seeking damages. Perhaps seeing your attorney's name on the letterhead will make the line respond more promptly and seriously to your concerns.

You should have done something immediately. I think now is too late, even to complain. As soon as you cut yourself, you should have called the nurse on duty. You then should have called the Front Desk and demanded that the person on duty come to your cabin immediately and survey he damage.
As Ascendancy said, if you have no pictures, buy a box of band-aids and forget about it.
Good Luck

I agree with Ascendancy and sympatico....
there is little to be done at this point
without photos. I would follow up with a
letter to the company to explain what
happened.....perhaps they will do something
to ease the pain, so to speak.

I am in total agreement with the others. How can you possibly prove what happened now unless you have photos, but they would have had to show the broken picture etc. not just cuts. You should have called the Nurse, the Pursers Desk and anyone else you could think of at the time and have it noted on file then you could have done something about it. Now I am afraid would seem to be far too late. Just write it off to experience.

I wrote about the incident on the exit survey they gave us on the final night of our cruise. I knid of thought that they would ask me about it before I disembarked. Do you think they save those things, and could refer to it, if I wrote a letter? Since I did complete it when we were at sea.

thanks

Anything like that you need documentation. A report of your visit to the medical department, for instance, would be very helpful. Don't suffer in silence, it gets you nowhere. I have written up things on the survey forms and they have NEVER responded. I think they are just to make you feel that the ship cares, and are immediately dumped.

I know on HAL ships, those survey's are kept and each is read by the Hotel Manager the week following that particular cruise. He highlights certain statements and then has a staff meeting, CD, Shorex Mgr, Shop Mgr, Chef, etc, etc., and goes over every one of the hightlighted comments, whether good or bad.
James - they can't possibly answer every single comment. They do make not of it and act on it, where feasable. You don't know how many people just nit pick and complain about everything.
Personally, it's too late to complain or write a letter. Just remember if it happens the next time.

This was really an unfortunate incident that happened to you, however there is probably not too much you can do at this point. Other than that experience, how was the rest of the cruise? Was the ship nice and how were the ports? We are booked on the same cruise the first week of November and am interested in any comments you might have.

It's not to late to write a letter of complaint! (Although you should have also complained on the ship!)

Do write that letter, they should at least be told!

I agree with Malcolm. It is not too late to write a letter to explain what happened and bring this problem to the attention of the management. That said, you really would have had a better chance at compensation, if that is what you are hoping for, if you had done or said something while still on board. This is a true story, not to do with cruising but similiar. While out for supper in a very nice resturant in our home town, we were sitting close by a table with 4 older ladies who had come from out of town to go to the slots. We did not hear any complaints from them about the food or service and we could here their conversations about the slots and how much they had won or lost quite clearly. When it was time to pay their bill two of them complained to the waitress that their panzorotti was not very good and did not have enough filling. Getting nowhere with the waitress they asked for the manager, in my opinion that was the right thing to do. What a laugh we had when the manager came to the table to sort the problem out only to find 4 empty plates! They were complaining about the quality and quantity of something they had completely finished. The manager explained that there was not much he could do about the situation since there was nothing to check, he gave them 10% off the final bill which I thought was unbelieveable. I would have sent these greedy ladies on there way. In future Redneck always complain right away, there is no point waiting until you go hone and then trying to get some satisfaction.

REDNECK, I'm sorry BUT, this is STEW-PED! :rolleyes
I think some of that glass cut your brain! How can you wait so long before making a formal complaint.

Is this your first cruise? No, wait, the first time out of the woods. Everyone is right, you should have done something right away. sorry. "Balcony"
