Have booked a Vision of the Seas Circle the Caribbean 12th March 01. We would really appreciate some input from all you old hands about where to stay in Miami close to the cruise ship terminal. Do any of the hotels run shuttles. Being in New Zealand all the information we get is in brochure form hard to tell. We like a reasonable standard, thanks in advance.

We did the same cruise on the Splendour in nov. 99 We stayed on Miami Beach at the FountainBleu. We were right on the beach and the hotel was beautiful. The bus picked us up and took us to the terminal. It wasn't too far, about a 20 min. ride. South Beach was near our hotel and we went to see it. We stayed for 2 days and we really enjoyed it.

Bluekiwi,

I always stay at the Marriott Biscayne Bay. I ask for a bayview concierge level room because I can have breakfast on the balcony in the early morning and watch the cruise ships come into port. There are other beautiful hotels (Doubletree, Hyatt, Intercontinental, and Sheraton) near the port, however, either they have a partial view or no view of the port. The hotels near the port range from $119USD on up.

All the hotels I mentioned are approximately ten minutes from the port (depending on traffic). I am uncertain if they have shuttles because I live in Florida and always drive.

If you have other questions feel free to e-mail me.

When we were in Miami in April, we had lunch at a beautiful hotel on Miami Beach. Loews Hotel. It was VERY nice! A bit spendy I am sure. If we go back to Miami, that is where we will stay next time. Here are a couple of sites to take a look! http://loewshotels.com/miamibeachhome.html http://miami.citysearch.com/E/V/MIAFL/0006/65/48/1.html

Sailing from Miami in 1998 we arrived one day early and stayed at the Best Western right across from bay side market place and approx 5 minutes from the ship terminal. This worked well for us.

We've always stayed at the Hyatt.
It's a $5 cab fare from the Bayside Mall. Sometimes RCL will shuttle you free to the mall at night. Great restaurants and entertainment down there.
Plus, it's only a $5-10 cab ride to the pier.
Great views! Nice hotel with a pool, hot tub and workout room. We love it.

Depends on what you want to do. If you are looking for good night life, stay in South Beach (Not the fountainbleau!! - had a bad experience there). I would reccomend Loews hotel there. Its a benew hotel right on the water closer to the main strip and their rates are about the same as fountainbleau. Cab ride should be <= $20 from south beach.

If you are looking for a more mellow area, you could stay downtown at the doubletree, Hyatt or Best Western. There is a big mall called Bayside with bars and restaurants. Should be about $5 to get you to the pier from downtown.

Enjoy.

ps. If your looking for stuff to do in the area try http://miami.citysearch.com/

The bad experience was as follows:

Upon check-in they tried to put us in a lesser room than we had reserved. After arguing with the idiot at the desk, he finally agreed to give us the room we had paid for. He sent us to a room with double beds even thought he said it had a king. When I told him, he sent us to another room. Guess what... another double bed and we thought someone was in the room because it had not even been cleaned (bed looked slept in)! Finally, on the third attempt, they gave us a room with a king bed but it was a smoking room and it wreaked. They are renovating the hotel but the section we were in was ancient. I'm sure when they filmed Goldfinger their it was considered very nice but welcome to the new millenium folks. Go to the Loews for the same money. Beautiful looking hotel, closer to the action!

The Howard Johnson's on Biscasyne is across from the port and they have a free shuttle to the port. Ask for the shoppers special, only
$55.00 per night. It is a very nice hotel with a rooftop pool and great views of the port.
