Finally getting back to normal after arriving home late Tuesday from Copenhagen - so will post a brief update on our two cruises from Rome/Lisbon and Lisbon/Rome on Rotterdam VI.
We found both cruises to be excellent -- food was very good in both the Dining Room and the Lido on these two trips (new chef started on May 18th-our lst cruise). We had no complaints except we felt there were too many ports and not enough sea days for a 12-day cruise. On the first cruise of 12-days we only had 2 sea days in the Med. The weather was outstanding (in the 70's every day and sunny). On the 2nd cruise we had 3 sea days but the weather was not really that warm to swim outside or sit for very long as it was windy most days. We enjoyed all the ports even though we'd been there before, long ago in some cases, and managed to overdue on sightseeing so that we were tired by the time we reached Copenhagen for an extra few days before our long flight home.
I was delighted to see so many of the officers that I've known for so long and had the privilege of dining with Captain Peter Bos at his table on Repeater's Night on the 1st cruise. My old friend, Chief Engr. Bert Boon, will be retiring on September lst so he will be missed greatly by HAL. Have known him since 1971 when he was 3rd Engineer!! Also good to see Fekko Ebbens again (Hotel Mgr.). He runs a "tight ship" for which I am greatful.
Sorry not to have met Bernard while we were in Rotterdam. I did stay aboard the ship that day, however, there were about 1,000 visitors who came aboard including a few guests of mine, invited and unexpected, and it was a most confusing scene around the Lido at noon. I should have asked Daniel, Security Officer, to have Bernard meet me at the Front Office at a certain time, but of course, I didn't think of this until we were sailing down the Maas! Sorry Bernard!! Maybe another time.
All in all I think the Europe cruises are among HAL's best...entertainment was very good, food was excellent, tours mostly very good. Now I look forward to my 63rd HAL cruise next January when we hope to do 3-months of the World Cruise from LA to Venice.

Hi NAL,
Unfortunately this time I was not able to visit the museum in Rotterdam because I was waiting for the visitors to arrive. Perhaps you know a few of them - Dick and Heidi Zeller and Janny Weggemans. Ynse Menger was also to visit but his brother had just died so was unable to come.
It was really great to be back to Rotterdam - my first time sailing into that port was 1968 on the old Statendam and then we did it again two years ago when the Rotterdam VI did it for the first time - people lined the Maas all the way to the North Sea that time!
