Intimate Ships Will Showcase the Beauty, Heritage and Character of Coastal Destinations

NEW ORLEANS, June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The first hull for American Classic Voyages' (Nasdaq: AMCV) new fleet of coastal ships was successfully launched at Atlantic Marine, Inc., in Jacksonville, Fla.

Now that the cv Cape May Light is in the water, up to 175 shipyard employees and subcontractors are working on her daily to complete construction. Piping, wiring and air conditioning systems have been already installed in many passenger and crew staterooms. Public areas such as the Dining Room, Grand Saloon and Chart Room Bar are being assembled from the lower decks upward.

The Cape May Light is one of two 226-passenger ships being built at Atlantic Marine for AMCV's Delta Queen Coastal Voyages(SM) fleet, which will begin sailing nine itineraries along the U.S. East Coast in spring 2001. AMCV is the nation's largest owner and operator of U.S. flag, U.S.-crewed passenger vessels.

Philip C. Calian, AMCV chief executive officer, said, "The shipyard launch of our first Delta Queen coastal vessel is another milestone in our company's expansion plans, which will virtually quadruple our passenger capacity over the next four years, to more than 7,500 berths."

The vacations aboard the new fleet of ships will showcase the beauty, character and heritage of coastal destinations. Each intimate, 300-foot vessel will have 114 cabins, 100 featuring views of the shoreline. The ships are classically designed, but safety technology will be state-of-the-art.

American Classic Voyages Co. also owns The Delta Queen Steamboat Co., known for river cruises in the Heartland and South on the Delta Queen, Mississippi Queen and American Queen and in the Pacific Northwest on the newly inaugurated Columbia Queen; American Hawaii Cruises, sailing the S.S. Independence to 5 ports on 4 Hawaiian Islands in 7 days; and United States Lines(R), inaugurating weekly Hawaii cruises with the 1,212-passenger ms Patriot on Dec. 9, 2000, and building two 1,900-passenger ships -- the largest cruise ships built in a U.S. shipyard -- for Hawaii service starting in 2003 and 2004.

Thanks LizKiddo

I've finally found a map with it on, when I knew where to look.

Terry,
Lizkdido is right, Cape May is at the southern most tip on New Jersey. A quaint little Victorian town that is enjoying and amazing renaissance. Narrow beach area in the main part of town but other beaches within a few minutes drive. Small fishing village provides plenty of fresh seafood for local restruants. Old lighthouse at Cape May point and remains of sunken cement ship off the point.
Only problem is getting in and out, has one road for main access.
