Has anyone ever been on a cruise that has stopped here? I remember once in 1997 I think, the Silver Cloud spent a day in Belfast, and then again last year when there was torrntial rain and the city was flooded. Apart from that, I think the Silver cloud and some Seabourne ships would stop in Londonderry now and then.
Has anyone been on one of these cruises? What did you do and think? What were the facilities and weather like? Any opinions welcome.

Paddy.

I saw on the news this morning that the Rotterdam is in Belfast for today, having just arrived from Dublin before setting off for france tonight. she is the biggest ship to be in Belfast since the Canberra's launch in 1960. I caught a glimpse of her earlier and she is HUGE. I am going down to the harbour to see her soon. YaY!!!

Glad to hear the Rotterdam made it on
schedule. Have a group of friends on board.
Can't wait to hear their report when they
get home.

Paddy - I also have a group of friends on the Rotterdam right now. Didn't know they were going to Belfast. No doubt you will not get on the ship, but tell us what you think of her? Wish I was with them.
Gayle - isn't that funny that we both know people on the ship - it would be funnier if they were the same people!!! I also can't wait to hear from them, although they are spending a couple of days in Copenhagen and won't be home until the 13th. Originally I was to be on the ship on the 11th and we were going to meet up in Copenhagen, but I had to change my plans. Just saw on your Profile that you were fron Conn. My friends are from Cape Cod - very close.

Sympatico, Your friends are my friends. We
were with them ( and also with you) on the
Veendam Nov, 1998. Have a picture of you at
their cocktail party. Small cruising world.

I got to see her!!!
Okay, it was from a bridge and it was quite murk and she was behind a Stena Line ferry, but she was there!!! I got closer and saw her superstructure, but none of her hull. I am now waiting for her to leave the lough so I can watch her sail out from my balcony. She is a very beautiful ship. She made front page news in the local paper with a big picture, being happy that she is here with the beginning of power here. Make sure ur friends let me know what they thought...

Paddy.

Gayle - I tried to e-mail you by clicking on the "e-mail address" on the forum
gjarcauro@aol.com
and it just came back saying that "it was undeliverable". Is this the right address or is it incorrect?
I can't believe that you know me. I must get that picture out and try and figure who you are. Did Liz tell you I was on this forum?
Do hope they are having a great time. How come you didn't go with them? Maybe next time (not the World Cruise) I will go with them. Diane

Sympatico, There was an error in my e-mail
address, my fault. We couldn't go because
we were on the Voelendam the end of March
and this was just to close. Liz told me you
were on here and I have been watching you for
a while. When you get the picture of the party out e-mail me and I will tell you who I
am. Also heard from Liz from the Rotterdam,
letting me know all her little ducks arrived
saftly.

To get back to Paddy's question: we have just returned from a cruise around the British Isles that stopped for a day in Derry (Londerry). We walked all through Derry in the morning and were on an excursion to Baronscourt in the afternoon. The town is delightful and the drive through the surrounding countryside just beautiful. Weather, as throughout the cruise, was rainy off and on. Now I know why Ireland is so green. PS The highlight of the day was upclose look at Highland Cows (pronounced Heeland Coos). A beautiful land!
