Hi! Which nights do you recommend are good to go to Portofino's (Voyager). How is the seating arrangement there? Do they arrange that for you or can you request a specific table/table mates? Also just wondering....
which evenings are the "formal nights" on the Voyager??
Thanks!

Starfish:
Our very first night (Sunday) is a formal night?????? I am going to presume that many people will not have received their luggage to get at their formal attire in time, on the first night on the ship.

Monday and Thursday are the formal nights.

We had early seating in the dining room and thus chose to go to Portofino on Friday, since we anticipated returning later that afternoon from a shore excursion and wanted to eat later that night.

Plan for plenty of time for a relaxed 7-course traditional Italian meal.

There are mostly tables for two, but they can put larger groups together too. If you go there in person to book, maybe they would let you request a particular table.

Just returned from the Voyager yesterday. We had the time of our lives. This is our 3rd cruise and this was by far the best! (We've been on Holland America and Princess prior to this one.)

We didn't eat at Portofino...we kept trying to decide if we should, and by the time we decided we wanted to, it was booked for the week. So, if you do, book it early! As far as the dining in the main dining room is concerned, we had really great meals every night. Wednesday might be a good day to make your reservation...it was a "Mardi Gras" theme, and that was the one night that we wished we had gone to Portofino. You're in Jamaica on Wedneday, so a later dinner would be nice. Sunday is a "welcome aboard" night, Monday and Thursday were formal nights (these were "at sea" days) and the menu on Friday and Saturday were fabulous in the main dining room. Saturday was "Caribbean night" with alot of tropical things on the menu. Thursday was lobster night, and in contrast to other reviews, our lobster was not dry at all...it was delicious!! Friday was international night. (I might have Friday and Saturday mixed up...I can't remember!)

Our table mates ate at Portofino and said it was good.

Overall, the entire experience was incredible. The entertainment was the best we've seen at sea, the food was great, the ship was amazing. And, I couldn't get over the fact that you couldn't feel the ship move..at all! On other ships we've been on you can constantly feel the rocking. This was didn't rock at all! (Good for those prone to sea sickness!) You'll have a great time. I'll submit a review in a few days so you can read more. Ask any questions you'd like!

Welcome back Laura...sounds like you had a great time too! I went during the tail end of hurricane season...and there were some nights when Voyager was rocking pretty good. But I love it when a ship does that. Did you check out the whirlpool located in the gym? Did they charge a fee there? (Sorry for changing the topic tonan...I was just curious )

Hey MagnmPI! Thanks so much for all your advice prior to this cruise! We had sooooooo much fun! This was truly the best vacation we've ever had!

Yes, we did go in the whirlpool in the gym, and no, they didn't charge anything. I guess they dropped the charge, because no one said anything about it all week!

We had one night when we were going faster than usual and the waves were higher too, and we felt it a tiny bit in the show lounge. You could see the curtains on the stage rolling to and fro! It was great for those prone to sea sickness - I didn't have any problems this time!
