My husband and I love great tasting food. Would we be disappointed on the Voyager?

We came off the Voyager last week. The service on board was excellent. The food was very acceptable but if you are looking for gourmet food this is not the Cruise Line for you.

Don't forget McDonald's, ooops, I mean Johnny Rockets.

Malts $3.50

Burgers $3.75 to $4.25

French Fries $1.25

Families traveling on this ship will learn the hard way that the fun food is not included. You know how children like their fast food !!!!!!!!!!!

CB: Why do people have to be so negative. But what you have said is a load or garbage. We went with our 12 year old grandson, there was also a 12 year old at our table with his parents. These are two perfectly normal children. They ate Pizza for free whenever they felt like it, its available for everyone 24 hours a day and its excellent Pizza. They even have Vegetarian Pizza if you ask. There was free Ice Cream again 24 hours a day. The kids ate the usual fare a supper time Burgers, or Chicken Fingers and Pizza, Hot Dogs if they wanted them.

We saw hardly anyone using Johnny Rockets, each time we went past because it was near the Ocean Club it was almost empty.

This was the easiest ship to eat 24 hours a day on than I have ever been on.

I was under the impression that on this board there were to be no nasty personal attacks. You obviously do not like the facts. What I posted was not an opinion. You could simply have stated that you disagreed without being derogatory.
Now based on what you said, it seems obvious that you and your grand showed much restraint by avoiding the hidden cost of the fast food at Johnny Rockets. Ahhhh, if all families were the same, I guess Johnny Rockets would vacate VOTS. But in many families, parents find it hard to tell their sweet kids "no" when they want a few malts and burgers at no other place than the enticing Johnny Rockets.

Royal Caribbean did not put Johnny Rockets on VOTS as a Christmas decoration.

Looking at Johny Rockets I really do believe it will end up as a Christmas decoration. It was empty, except for say 6/7 people each time we passed it.

Ok so I said your comment was garbage but I did not lay into you the way I have been laid into many times for just passing on some information ie. Insurance and also liking RCI because I must make more commission that on other cruises. I do like RCI personally, I like the service better on HAL and Celebrity and I honestly dont like Carnival but those are my personal opinions and as a Travel Agency owner I sell my clients what they want. I shall be sailing for the first time with Princess in October on the Ocean Princess and am looking forward to that. At least that way I can answer my clients questions.

I felt the food in the Dining Room was good, service very slow, but this has been the norm with RCI recently (had the same problem on the Splendour in Oct). I think the slow service comes from being understafed. Both cruises our waiters had 16 people to serve - before they never had more than 12. Also, felt the food in the Windjammer and Grill to be mediocre at best. As far as food goes Princess is heads above the rest. Don't get me wrong - I felt the food was good to very good most nights, we were with 5 other couples and there was one night no one saw anything on the menu you liked, but you always have the alternative dining at the Windjammer (sit down, being served) in the evening and also, there is always pizza, sandwiches and pastries in the Promenade, so you certainly won't go hungry! We all missed the comradery with our waiter & busboy, we never saw them except to take our order and bring our food.

jwine: was it "International Night" when the people at your table couldn't find anything on the menu they liked? (If it was International night, was it Saturday night?) Another person on this board said a similar thing...I'm considering making reservations at Portofino that night... Did you eat at Portofino? (If so, what did you think?)

Linda,I think you would be dissapointed with
the food and the service. We were on the 2/6
sailing and we were. We"ve cruised RCI and
several others, this was the worst but there
is something about the ship itself that will
make it worth while.
Laura A feast of nations dinner is on sat.
night but i believe Portofinos is closed
due to tip night.

Just a little light note:
When we were on Grandeur of the Sea the past December, our waiter jokingly said to our table: "Ah, tomorrow night is the 'international night'... leftovers(the ishes are freshly made, however, their themes had been used)...."

Serious, the food is good on RCCL ships.

Starfish, What other lines have you cruised on? We are trying to decide between the Voyager and Celebrity's Century.

Linda, we've been on Home Lines,RCI 3times,
Celebrity(my favorite)3times, and Princess
once.
We were on the Century in 2/96.This was our
second time with Celebrity, and our most
enjoyable. At the time Celebrity took their best, tenured staff from their other ships which provided the best service by far.
We think that Celebrity's food is the best in the business compared to the other lines we have been on. Let us know if you need any other help. Good luck in your decision!

Yes, it was International Night (Saturday), we were with 10 people and no one could find anything they liked. I wound up with a salad and baked potatoe. We had thought of going to the Windjammer but it was closed also.

My vote for best food - Princess hands down. We have been on 23 cruises since '72, RCI, NCL, HAL, Celebrity, Princess, Disney and Premier. Disney had really good food also, plus the changing restaurants was very unique. We were on the Zenith a couple of years ago and I was not impressed by their food at all, certainly not 5-star as they advertise. They had recently changed menus and other people at our table who had sailed with them before said they were disappointed in the food on this cruise. So maybe we just hit a bad time with them. Was not real happy with the food on the Splendour in Oct, again they said they were trying out new menus, but no one was real happy with them. Except for the last night on the Voyager, everything was pretty good in the dining room. Wasn't impressed with the Windjammer and Grill though.
