I was planning on booking my parents on a cruise for their 30th year anniversary, and I was going towards Celebrity because I've heard so many ggod things about it. Is there any reason (that anyone knows of) that I shouldn't?

I was on Celebrity Cruise Line in 1992 and loved it . I was on the Zenith , it had only been in the water 2 months at the time . I found they had great food , entertainment , and service . I don't have one complaint about this ship . My friend liked it so much she went on it twice . Good for you for booking your parents on a cruise , they will love it !!!

We have been on two cruises--both in 1999--and both on Celebrity's Galaxy. She is a very nice ship--extremely clean and "sophisticated"--no glitz. We found the staff to be very friendly and interested in our having a good time. We did find some of the foreign staff to be a little "stiff", but I believe that was more from their culture rather than not being outgoing. I believe anyone, of any age, would love Celebrity.

I had researched Celebrity for several months before booking a trip. 95% of all the reviews I read were positive. I figger the other 5% are the same 5% of people who would gripe if it was perfect! I leave next week for my trip on the century. I'll post a review when we return.

We've been on the Zenith in'95,Century'96 and Mercury in '98. They were all excellent!
We actually took our parents and in-laws with us on the Century and they loved it! Over the span of 3 years the service stayed the same. Excellent. We've sailed on Princess and RCI and in our opinion, Celebrity wins. We always found the staff to be genuine and sincere. The entertainment was good, but, perhaps not enough "Big Names" for some. We didn't notice any change on the Mercury when RCI took over and hopefully there won't be.

I just returned from a trans-canal
cruise on Zenith. It was great. Besides
the staff being very attentive I noticed
that the crew was not tense. Some
crews are very nervous and tense, like if]
they make a mistake they will be fired or
left off at the next port. The attitude
on a Celebrity ship is still like a family
shipping line even though they are now
part of RCCL.

We cruised Century in 96 and 98, Horizon in 97 (and we're going again in a few weeks), Zenith in 98, and Galaxy in 99. We've had nothing but great service, wonderful food, and cherished memories of all our Celebrity cruises. I think they offer an excellent value for what their cruises cost.

Casavaha- What was the trans-canal cruise like? Was it interesting going over the canal, or was it overlooked?

casavaha,
Did you maybe see my girlfriend too ? She´s working as a bartender on the ZENITH right now. Her name is Tünde. Hope she was nice to you since you mentioned some crew was nervous...Let me know.
I´m happy to hear that all of you were satisfied and happy about your Celebrity cruise. Because I´m a former Celebrity agent (I worked on the ZENITH too), I still take it as a compliment.

We have ben on the Horizon three times, the Zenith twice and most recently on the Century in Europe last Spring. Each time the service has been great and the food has always been top of the line. We have had the two best cabin stewards and stewardesses on our last two cruises. The dining room staff treated everyone like a family member and we had all ages at our table 16 to 60. The entertainment has improved in the last few years. They are my #1 choice and my wife's #2 choice.

Francesca: The trans-canal (8hrs)part of the
cruise was a definite highlite. The canal
puts on a running commentary during the
cruise. Sometimes it is difficult to
hear. This was my first crossing but I would
do it again in a minute.
Patrick:
I think your girlfriend (is she blonde?) was
working at night in the fleetbar. Very nice
girl.
We liked the Zenith so much that we want to
return in April for the Oronoco River trip.
This ship is not for everyone as there are
no glass elevators, malls, ice rinks etc.
but if you want "friendly" good service,
good food, this is a good value.

Patrick:
Ask her if she remembers the couple on
the Dec. 12-26 cruise that danced and
closed the bar every night. We also became
good friends with the musicians. They used
to play cha-cha and romantic tunes for
us.

Ok, I´ll ask her about it. I´m sure she´ll remember because she´s very talkative to people. What was the name of the musicians who played in Fleet-Bar ? I might know them too. You mentioned you´ll probably go on the Orinocco-river cruise too. Well, it´s possible that we´ll see each-other the but I´m not sure yet about if it´s going to be this or another cruise with ZENITH. It depends on my holidays.

I have sailed on the Horizon twice (1990 &1991) and I sailed on the Zenith (1998). Both sailings were great. I definetly would recomend Celebrity especially their new ships. Out of the ten cruises I have been on the best were Celebrity Cruises.

Patrick I have been trying to get a job on a cruise ship. Help me!!

nycruiser, it´s very difficult to get a job on a cruiseship. I was very lucky that due to my former company, which represented Celebrity Cruises and Festival Cruises in Luxembourg, I was able to work onboard.
The thing what I can advise you to do is send as many applications you can to each cruiseline and try to get known somebody responsible in the management who can help you further easier. And don´t stop calling them and go on sending messages to show that you are really interested in a job on a ship. Believe me, I´d like to help you but since I´m no more working for them and a lot has changed since the takeover by RCI in between the management, I can´t do anything.
Some cruiselines also have career opportunities in their website where you can fill up an application form. Try this too.
Just don´t give up.
Good Luck !

I am sailing on the Galaxy in April through the Panama Canal. The itineray includes St. Thomas, Aruba, Cartagena, the Canal, Caldera, Acapulco, Cabo San Lucas. Any comments on these ports of call. Also any heads up about the ship. Our cabin is on the Penthouse deck.

I have sailed on Celebrity for the past 5 years and have always had a wonderful experience. We like the service, good food and the fact that there are rarely children on board unless you go during Christmas or New Year's. We have sailed the Horizon, Zenith, Mercury and Century. We plan to sail the Galaxy soon. Good Luck!

skinny63 - St. Thomas, USVI, was a port of call for us aboard the Century and Horizon. In our experience, St. Thomas offers wonderful buys on gold and silver jewelry (rings, chains, bracelets, and watches), including unmounted stones. Linens, dishware, electronics and European clothing were also reasonbly priced. St. Thomas is also a duty free port. We were impressed with the close proximity of the shopping to the pier (no tendering required). The Havensight Mall, about 100 feet from the pier, contains several hundred shops with staff eager to sell. Should you want more selection, "downtown" is a short walk or quick cab ride away. There are so many shops, in four visits we have not seen them all. Negotiating prices is accepted. To date our cruises have all been in the Eastern Carribean, therefore, I have no personal knowledge on the shopping at the other ports you mentioned. We are so impressed with St. Thomas, we now choose to make all of our major vacation purchases there.

We have cruised on the Mercury twice. Once to Alaska and once to the Western Caribbean. We loved the ship and the service! Excellent. Great food, exept maybe the hard bacon and runny eggs, and hash in the breackfast buffet, in the Palm Springs Cafe. They make a wonderful apple chutney to put on the French toast that I would love the recipe for! They always have lots of fresh fruit too. Food in the dining room is superb! I love the gloved waiters that carry your buffet tray to a table for you. And ladies, at dinner they always serve the ladies first and then the gentlemen. I noticed that Carnival did not practice this. Your cabin steward escorts you to your cabin when you first arrive on the ship. We have booked their new ship "Millennium I". Happy Cruising
