My husband and I are getting ready to sail on an 11 day southern Caribbean cruise on Celebrity's Horizon on Feb 14. We have been on the Zenith (about 4 years ago) Eastern/Western Caribbean. Has anyone been on Celebrity's Southern Carib? How is Celebrity's service, food, etc. since being taken over by RCCL? How are the ports? Any one have any good information to share regarding that? Any information is greatly appreciated.

My wife and I have been to the southern caribbean on Horizon three times over the past six years. It is our favorite itinerary. The ship is not as glitzy as the newer ships but has some great lounges, good size dance floors, a very good show lounge and excellent service. the cabins are pretty much the standard size with the usual amenities. The best part of the Celebrity experience is the food. it is very good. We have been on HA, Princess, NCL, Crown, and Rpyal Carib and found the food on Celebrity is the best. Also, the service has been excellent- from the cabin steward to the wine steward and dining room staff.

Some great places in Barbados and St. Lucia to go to the beach.
We also found that the cruise make up was mixed, with the vast majority to be 35 to 55 years old,

Have fun

Me again.

My wife said the beach in St. lucia is Reduit Bay. Great for sun bathing and swimmiing, plenty of room to lie in the sun and enough hotels to get something to drink or eat. Take a cab, we think it was 10 or 12 dollars each way.

she also said to hire a cab in Barbados for an island tour. do it with anoither couple and you can have some real fun. you get to see what you want for as long as you want and the driver can add a beach stop for few hours. We've done it twice - go to Gun hill for a great view of the island.

have fun, wish we were going withyou.

Hi, fharris. My husband & I will also be going on Horizon's Valentines Day sailing. We sailed Horizon in 1997 for a 7 night Southern Caribbean, and we're looking forward to the longer cruise. We really love Celebrity, and even though Horizon isn't as big or new as Century or Galaxy, the service and food are every bit as exceptional. Since you've already been on Zenith, you'll feel right at home on Horizon; they're almost identical, save for colors and fabric patterns. Maybe we'll bump into each other!

We sailed the 10 day Horizon to southern Caribbean 11/12 to 11/22 and had a wonderful time. If you remember Huricane Lenny was there with us and we still managed to have a great time even tho' we had to skip Antiqua because ALL ports were closed. Thankfully we resumed our schedule the next day. We were rocky enough to have to limit our dancing but the show people went on like troopers. By the way, this was our 10th cruise and by far the most beautiful and dramatic costuming and staging of all including Princess, NCL, RCI and Century. (We were on the Century for the second time for 5 days on 12/18/99 and their stage shows were poor by comparison. I think this interim 5 day cruise was a time for trying out some new (and uninteresting) production shows.)
I digress! Getting back to the Horizon, the food was excellent, dining room staff was excellent, stewards ecellent, entertainment excellent as were Barbados and St. Lucia.
St. Maartin and St. Thomas were their usual selves. We took formal tours on the former two and the guides were very good and the Islands very beautiful.
In summary, I think Celebrity makes an extra effort on it's smaller ships. I even felt that the food was a cut above both trips on the Century. ENJOY!!!!!

Thank you all so very much for your input. It looks like we will have a wonderful time. Usha - maybe we can meet up onboard at some point. My husband and I are from Denver and will be flying in the day before the cruise. Let me know if you would like to. Again thank you.

St Lucia is not listed on our itenarary and neither is St Maartin. Any one been to Martinique? any info on that port? the other stops are Caracao, Caracas and Grenada plus St Thomas.

We were in Martinique last February. Streets were a mess with construction and they are very narrow. Traffic was horrendous. Go on an excursion and get out of the town. We used to take the ferry over to the beach but the prices have gone up so high we decided to forgo about it.
DO NOT get off the ship in Caracas. The line we travel on had discontinued going in there after a few passengers were mugged on our last trip a couple of years ago.
Curacao is lovely and there is lots to see - if it is your first time take an excursion. We just went to the beach in Feb. as we have been twice before.
Same with Grenada - we took a ship's excursion to the beach. In other posts people said they were bothered by hawkers, selling t-shirts, spices, etc. I bought some saffron as it is much cheaper there than at home
Have a great trip and enjoy yourselves.

Martinique if one of our favorites but get our of town by cab or a tour to St. Pierre at the northern tip of the island. It's a beautiful drive along the coast then through a rain forest on the way back to town. Lots colorful blooming Hibiscus plants.
Caracao is one of the most beautiful harbors to sail into in the world. Grenada is pretty and has a fantastic beach but the pedlars and beggars drive you crazy. Just say NO! Caracas has had a lot of political problems and a horrendous natural tragedy with mud slides that killed thousands. I doubt that Celebrity will go into there.
