Hello;
We have narrowed our choice down to 2 ships for the Alaska cruise. HAL Veendam and Princess Regal.
Does anyone have more input they can offer on these ships?

I've sailed both lines, and find them very comparable. There is one significant difference with the ships, that may or may not be of importance to you. If you are the type of person that likes to "hang out" at the railing watching your progression through the various channels, be aware that on the Regal Princess (and Crown) there is no forward facing outside deck; you are limited to viewing to the sides or over the stern. I've found that the small exterior deck on the forward end of Baja deck is usually locked, or chained off with a "crew only" sign. Veendam on the other hand has several forward facing exterior decks, and on occasion the whole forward area of the bow is open to the pax.

Thanks for the response, it appears that the majority of my replies to the question on all bulletin boards, has leaned to the VEENDAM also.
We will choose the Veendam if we can get it for a good deal.

You sound like the type that would enjoy a verandah room. I would recommend the extra expense.

I,ve been on the Regal's sister ship, Crown Princess twice and will be on the Regal in April.
They both have an enclosed dome forward on Sun Deck which includes a super wrap-around observation area- albeit enclosed. This may be beneficial if the weather is cool or wet!
The downside to this area is that it is just forward of the casino.
If you look at a photo of the Regal this is top-forward, just above the bridge and looks like a dolphin's brow.
