We are booked on the VOTS 2/6. Can anyone tell us about any nice, safe beaches in Ocho Rios or Cozumel? Has anyone been to Dunn's River Falls with children ages 5-11? This is the first time we are doing the Air/Sea package and are booked on the pre-night. Does RCCL do a good job getting you their at a reasonable time? How are the children's programs on the VOTS and do they offer in cabin babysitting? Thanks!

Dunns River Falls is definitely not suitable for a 5 year old. You see you climb the falls which takes about 1/2 hour and I have seen some adults have a problem. You can however walk down the pathway beside them to the beach at the bottom. It is very crowded. The childrens programmes on RCI are very good, the Club is called Club Ocean.

We booked the air/sea package on RCI's Voyager last month(Voyage #2). We stayed at the Hyatt the night before. Beautiful hotel. However the next morning there were so many people waiting for buses. There were two RCI ship passengers staying at the hotel and leaving on Sunday. Had to have been about 20 bus loads enroute to the harbor. By the time we got to the pier the lines were so long, and keep in my mind we had already pre-registered at the hotel. I talked to some passengers afterwards, they said they took an early cab to the pier to beat the "bus rush". This problem may have already been fixed by now though.

I agree with Phil about Dunn River Falls. My husband did not what to climb the falls , but I was considering it. We hired a cab to tour for a couple of hours and the driver told us they charge you to see the falls even if you do not climb. He also mentioned that it can be dangerous and many people have been injured and suggested he take us to a spot where we could take pictures and then decide if I wanted to do this. I took one look and decided that it was not for me. My husband got some great shots and I was satisfied I got to see the falls. The TV makes the falls look like some beautiful romatic place showing only a couple of people. In reality it is VERY crowded and could be dangerous. Your 11 year old may love it, but this is definitely not for a 5 year old.
Cozumel does have a good beach. but I cannot remember the name of it. Chank???? something or other.
Have fun.

Forget the bus. We stayed at the same hotel and arrived at the pier at 11:30 and got right on.

Another tip for people sailing VOTS. Don't miss the large jacuzi in the exercise room. It is not hot water. Probably 20' in diameter. Suppose to be specital mineral water.

What is nice about it is the "jets". Strongest I have ever been in. Just about knocks you down. You can fall back against the wall and the pressure of the "jets" holds you up. Just like getting a massage. One side of the pool is stronger the other is so - so. Enjoy!

I was a little disapointed VOTS was charging $5 a day to use it. But it seemed like the week we sailed they were letting people use it free. May be changed by now. Just walk in and play dumb! You can alway leave.

While I am on the subject of spas, how many people use a ships sauna an steam room. I always had and consider them a real treat on a 7 day cruise.

billyboy, So are you saying not to register at the hotel and just take a cab to the terminal and register there?

we stayed at the hotel. Booked our own flight to Miami. We always go a day early. More relaxed and make sure we don't have any weather problems. If you miss your flight tough luck. Going in a day early you are pretty sure you will get into Miami in case of bad weather. RCC registered us to get on the ship. But rather that take the bus we took a cab. I only cost $5 and we was happy to beat the crowd.

Hey billyboy did you say that there was a $5. charge to use the jacuzzi in the exercise room? I used it every day, sometimes twice a day and never saw anyone pay anything.

Smart move taking a cab.

The first day the guy at the desk said $5 to use to jacuazzi and they had it roped off. I found out later people were just walking in a using it.

This worked good several times. Then one day here comes one of the people who work up front at the desk in the workout room telling everybody it costs $5. Everybody just looked "dumb" and got out. The next day everyone was back, no questions asked. $5 "stink". I am glad to hear you didn't pay. Maybe VOTS backed off on charging.

Gizmo, the beach in Cozumel is "Chunk-a-knob" beach and it is very nice. Don't know how to spell it though.
