Natalie, I forgot to mention it, but if you are on the itinerary that includes Havana, Cuba, dont miss going ashore. The old city where the ship docks is just beautiful and also clean. Native Cubans are very friendly and polite. You dont need a tour, just walk ashore and you are right there.
Also, because of the Americn embargo some things are in short supply. Soap is really appreciated. Also, the kids love apples since they are not available. They wont beg however because they seem to have a lot of dignity. Have a good trip and E mail me if you need any more free but possibly worthless advice

Merry Christmas to all my readers

Hi there, thanks for the brill reviews. Actually going in three days and have been told today that we have been upgraded to "Deluxe" cabin!!!!

No we are not going to Cuba but have been there before anyway. Havent been to Havana but recommend Cuba as having the best beaches (so far anyway). Any useful information on the MS Carousel would be very helpful - Yours very excitingly etc.etc.

N (ps, weather in Cancun is not brilliant at the moment!!)

Kelly, firstly are you American or English. The Americans were the ones complaining about the ship but I am British and I had a brilliant time. The food is excellent and the waiters are lovely.

Be warned it is an old ship but we had a great time!!!

Are you going to Grand Cayman - if you are I recommend the Sting Ray City Tour. You swim with the sting rays. It was excellent. I didnt want to come home. I was very sad to leave our last port (Jamaica) as I knew we were on our way home. Got back yesterday!!

Natalie , I've been waiting to hear about your cruise because I know from the site that you were going on it . I am Canadian and my husband is British ( now also Canadian ).We just came back from a visit to England in the fall. I don't put myself in the same category as Americans .How was the Cruise ? Did you read that horrible review posted on this site about the ship ? Did you think it smelled like sewage ? How was the food , entertainment , and service ? When you said the ship was old , did you mean it looked old and run down . Would you go on the Carousel again ? Would you recommend it to your friends ? This is my husbands first cruise and I reall want him to like it . Were the public areas ok ? Did you feel cramped on the ship . Did you go swimming with the dolphins ? I've been to Stingray City on another cruise and also found it amazing . Did you go on the ships exursion and how much was it ?? Please any positive comments on this ship would be very helpful right now , I'm going in 3 weeks . Thankyou , Kelly

Kelly- The Carousel is the most brillant holiday I've ever been on. I've been on the ship twice and loved every minute of it. Most of the crew are from the Phillipines and really friendly I keep in contact with some of them and this year most of them remembered me from the year before. Everyone makes you feel very welcome, the food is fab. Take it from me, an expert on the M/S Carousel you will really enjoy yourself.

Kelly,

So many questions!!!!

First of all this was my first cruise and I enjoyed every minute of it. Basically it is not in the same class as the bigger ships in terms of standard and facilties but the food was excellent and I agree the Philipino Waiters were really nice and friendly and cannot do enough for you. It is quite sad as they are away from their families for months at a time.

No I didnt smell sewage anywhere on the ship. The look of the ship is now dated and shabby as I believe the ship was built in 1969. The entertainment wasnt really my cup of tea but then I only saw one show. I spent my time in the Casino. I did not feel cramped on the ship. Sometimes there is a queue for lunch on the Lido Deck and when you queue for the Captain's Picture but that was all. On the days when we were at sea there was plenty of sunbeds available but if you are going as a couple I would advise against sitting near the pool as it is mainly occupied by children. There are plenty of quieter decks though. Wear lots of sunscreen. We stopped at Cozumel and did the land snorkel trip but would recommend getting a taxi yourself and finding a beach as we did not see much sealife. The sting rays I would strongly recommend! The excursion is called the Grand Cayman Highlights Tour and we went to Hell, a Turtle Farm and then the Sting Rays. Very good trip. Loved Grand Cayman. We went to Montego Bay in Jamaica instead of Ochio Rios but we did our own thing with friends we met. Honduras is PANTS. We did not book an excursion and we were told it was dangerous so we only stepped on the shore. Book an excursion, you may see a bit more of the island instead of a shabby port. As I have gone on a bit I will stop. Anymore questions please let me know. Put it this way - I didnt want to come home!!!

Thanks everyone for you positive feedback . I know my questions are very long but I'm having a hard time finding out much info about the Carousel . The Sunquest and Airtours web sites don't say much or show many pictures of the ship . The other web sites don't have much info either . Only 19 more days to departure !!!
P.S Do many of the passengers get upgrade at the last minute like Natalie did ? We booked early . I hope so , I have the small inside cabin on B deck.

POOLBAR, when did you last go on Carousel and did you get to fly from Aldergrove? We want to get a last minute deal for the sunbird in the summer (our friends got a great deal on Thomson IslandBreeze), but very few of the Airtours deals were form Belfast, and we don't like having to go to England. Even if we would we would go easyJet t Luton or Liverpool but their flights leave to early to Palma.

Kelly

We booked a year before our holiday and three weeks before we were told that there were no standard outside cabins left (we booked one of these) so could we have a superior outside - ok then.

About a week before our holiday the travel agent called to see if we could pick up our deluxe cabin upgrades - eh?? - no argument from us.

So you never know???

Kelly, I really can't see you having any problems on the Carousel, and even if there are ( as Natalie said worn carpets etc.)they won't have a major effect on your vacation, so pack a good paperback, some cash for the casino and enjoy it.

POOLBAR, I live in North Belfast just about a mile away from Glengormley.
