Alot has been said about Voyager of the Seas' atrium, rock climbing wall, ice skating rink, and inside cabins with a view. But here are some other services she has to offer. This is not to say that other ships don't have these services already, this is merely a list of things off the top of my head ($=additional fee required).

1) Helicopter landing pad.
2) 360 degree promenade. Need to climb stairs when you get close to the bow though. If that's a problem take the forward elevators one deck up to #5, then proceed out either side exit of Cleopatra's Needle lounge and you'll end up where you left off minus the stairs.
3) Accesible bow. You can walk right up to the tip and do your "king of the world" imitation.
4) Glass viewing area of bridge.
5) Full basketball/volleyball court.
6) 15 internet ready computers in library, plus 4 more in the business center.$
7) Onboard tuxedo rental service.$
8) 24hr cafe located on deck 5. So passengers below decks don't have to travel 10 decks up in case they get the midnite munchies.
9) Self-serve ice cream station, also open 24hrs. and located on deck 5.
10) Inline roller skating course.

Any positive or negative reactions are welcomed. If Voyager passengers out there remember something that wasn't included please feel free to add. Any questions as always please ask. =)

Since you asked, I believe you left out the flower shop, where one could purchase fresh flowers, for pickup or delivery!

And maybe the golf simulator ...

(Of course, people should be prepared for the extra charges if they want to take advantage of these activities.)

You must be referring to the "Concierge Club." I saw this in the initial ship publicity described as "an exclusive venue" but it's not publicized to passengers or listed in onboard ship directory. I found it on the ship, but didn't investigate and so I don't know what they have there and for whom.

And ... how could I forget the INTERACTIVE TV!

We had our excursions booked using the remote control within 5 min of boarding. Also were able to check on our summary of shipboard expenses each day (and watch it get longer and longer and longer ...)

By the way, if you like big ships, hope you saw my post about the largest ship afloat (not a cruise ship) under the next Voyager message string.

Debi, Jm and MagnmPI....I'll be sailing on Voyager at the end of February and am curious about a number of things, especially the activities on board on the "at sea" days! Is the cruise staff fun and good at keeping us entertained around the pool? I've been on 2 cruises previously and both were completely opposite on the "at sea" days. The cruise staff on the Noordam was so much better than the Dawn Princess at keeping us entertained! It really made a big difference....we had so much more fun on the Noordam! Were there any parties outside on deck at night? (Both Noordam and Princess had a couple of these, which were alot of fun!) Also, will we have the same cruise staff at the end of February that you had? (If so, how were they?) I'm anxious to read more reviews - have any of you found other sites that are now showing Voyager reviews? I keep ckecking and haven't seen any posted yet.

Hi Laura,

We really liked the band that played every afternoon by the pool. They usually had a pool game or two at around 1:00. There were some evening deck parties, one w/ C+W music, one with rock ...

I don't have another cruise to compare to, but they did have a napkin-folding class an art auction, a newly-wed game, a Captain's party and a midnight gala buffet (which was a zoo - I think they should do it on two nights and schedule half the passengers each night, if everyone would cooperate - I didn't even get to sample any food). I don't think they had galley tours, dance lessons or a trivia game (except you could pick up the daily trivia question and turn in your answer at the desk). There was some type of party just about every night. A lot of the things listed as "activities" such as the "cigar afficionados" gathering weren't really organized activities, but, rather, just an advertizement for one of their lounges, and sometimes it was hard to tell from the listing so we just called the front desk who always gave us the real story.

I think the atmosphere aboard Voyager is that they provide lots and lots of things to do (we were certainly never bored, and we didn't even sample everything). But it's up to you to pick and choose and to keep yourself entertained, because they're not really going to take the lead. After all, we don't want close to 3000 people all doing the same thing and crowded into one area of the ship all at the same time. When that happened once or twice, it wasn't pleasant!

Other reviews have been posted on-line. But they're mostly on TA sites, so if you email me I'll direct you, rather than posting them here.

Hope you have a great cruise!

Debi

Thanks, Debi! It sounds like Voyager does alot of the same things other ships do. Do you remember if they had "horse races" around the pool? My husband really enjoyed those on our cruise on HAL's Noordam a couple years ago!

Oh yeh! They definitely had the horse races! On several different days (and at least one of the evening deck parties)!

It was kind of difficult to see them, though,
'cause they were kind of popular and everyone would crowd around. I'd suggest watching them from up on a higher deck, maybe.

By the way, in case you try to email me my yahoo mailbox keeps malfunctioning, so it might take me a while to answer.

The interactive TV was cool...most cruise lines have them set up that way for the most part. However, being able to go through a list of excursions and see a video clip summary of the tour on command was great. I have been able to book excursions on TV on other RCI ships. Voyager's TV room service ordering system still has some bugs though. Our dinner table companions pre-ordered breakfast from the interactive TV, and got served the breakfast 3 days later. Too funny. Also the navigation channel found on many ships wasn't available yet. This channel will show you the ships position on a map, how many nautical miles traveled and how many more to go. It also shows you your ships route, gives current temperature, wind and sea condition readings.

Hey Laura....There is plenty to do on a Voyager, and the staff was fun and energetic. Some of the opening staff may still be there, I believe the cruise director said he works 3 months on and 3 months off. I tried to do everything but just couldn't. There were plenty of evening deck parties, but due to windy conditions on my cruise they were moved indoors to Studio B, which I thought was alot better. They even had parades down the Royal Promenade at night.

1 tip though, if you want to dine at the alternative restaurant Portifino, make a reservation on your first night because the whole week will be booked in about 24hrs.

Magnum,

I know you said that many other ships had these features first, so they really cant be considered VOTS's innovations can they?

Helicopter Pad:European Ferries have had them for ages. Marco Polo debuted with one in 1993

Wrap Around Promenade:Been around for ages

Accessible Bow:Norwegian Majesty and the HAL "Boxdam Class"

"Peek A Boo Bridge" isney Magic, Wonder, STar Leo and Virgo

Full BB-VB Courts:Norway, Norwegian Sea and Sun Princess Class

Tux Rental:What Ship doesnt have them?

Golf Simulator:Royal Viking Sun

No they are not Voyager innovations, I used that title loosely as a "teaser" headline, since all those services were on ONE ship. As far as tux rentals, this wasn't the type where you place an order with your measurements 2 to 3 weeks prior to sailing. During the days, prior to formal evenings, you can go and get fitted for a tux witout making prior land arrangements. I have never seen that before, and thought that was different.

Wife and I cruised VOTS on the 5th. Loved every minute of the cruise. We have cruised only R.C. (7) times so we cannot compare with other ships. Had an inside cabin on floor 9. Surprised that we didn't have to stand in line very long. Always walked into the dining room and windjammer. Though the promenade was crowded for the parades in the evenings. Talk about "walking on stilts", the performers really put on a fantastic show.

Several other items; ie;the ice show performers were great and the show entitled "dreamscape" is really something.

Could go on and on but will answer any questions. So fire away. By the way this week (Dec. 12) their are 800 children on VOTS.

Anybody cruising VOTS don't miss the "big whirl pool" in the workout room. The jets have enough pressure you can't hardly stand up. Great back massage and the water isn't hot!

One last tip. Catch a taxi to the pier and you can get on VOTS at 12:00 noon. We did and got the jump on the tour bus.

Getting off VOTS was real fast. We was off the boat by 08:30 and I think we were one of the last to leave.

Liked VOTS so well we booked EOTS for Dec. of '00.

Hey Billyboy, who was the performer for Celebrity Showtime on your trip?
Also, did you play bingo, and if so how much was the final JACKPOT?

The entertainer was comedian,Jon Pinette. Do you know who he is? He has been in several movies and TV shows. He was really funny. Saw him in the pool the next day. He was big before when I saw him on TV. I think he has put on more weight. Of course that is how he makes his money. His comedy line is about his weight.

No bingo - just table games - craps, blackjack.

I think the bingo jackpot was $6000. I can't remember exact figure.

I saw those comedians on cable after we
came back from our cruise. Anyway the
VOTS is a great ship. Have nothing to
compare it to since it was our first
cruise. Been to caribbean before but
never on a ship. I would definately do
it again. My family had a great time. No
one wanted to go home, esp. the kids. My
daughter 4 yrs. old met a crew member
(Becky Thomson) whom she just adored. It
was our daughters birthday on the 4th
and Becky made the biggest fuss over
her, bought her birthday presents and
cake. Everyone was very helpful, very
friendly, can't wait to take another
cruise.
