I am going on the Grand Princess in March. I would like to know the must sees and dos on the ship and in port? Which island has the better shopping, St.Thomas or St. Martin?

According to the crew St. Marten is better pricewise for electronics, watches than St. Thomas, but check with the people in the shorex on the ship.

We are going on the Grand in Nov. 2000. We were at St. thomas and St. Maartens before and I loved the Golden Eagle Desert Island Getaway. It's a champaign Catamaran ride to a desert Island where you can snorkel, relax, swim, float, and lounge. The crew is instructed to cater your every whim. The ride itself is worth it. Its absolutely beautiful, be prepared to get splashed, most of the fun. Let me know if ther are other excursions to see. good luck

At Princess Cays don't wait till the last minute to board a tender...the lines are sooooo long there.

I made the mistake of not carrying a couple of bucks with me while I dined at the Bistro at midnight. Since it was a sitdown restaurant, I had to tip the waiter...but I didn't have any cash and I couldn't charge the tip to my cruise card. The waiter was very nice and told me it was his pleasure to serve me and not to worry of the tip. Needless to say I tracked him down and paid him appropriatly.

Oh my god, I am going on the Grand in March too. We'll have to meet up so we can have some fun together. He, he, what's up guys? I have been reading a lot of input today and everyone seems to like that Golden Eagle excursion in St. Maarten, so write that one down 'cause I think I want to do it. Does anyone know exactly how much that Golden Eagle excursion costs and how long it lasts?

I was on Grand last Feb. I didn't do the Golden Eagle excursion but heard many positive things about it on the ship.
It's 31/2 to 4hours long. Adults-$59./Child-$39.

Just for the heck of it, I checked RCI's price list for the exact same trip. Adults-$56./Child-$35.

As for St. Maartin, if you're looking for liquor, the guavaberry liqueur is one thing you can bring back with no cutoms limit. The guavaberry rum is also good - both are unique to that island. Personally, I'm glad I made it Marigot on the French side of St. Martin. The cafe scene was worth the trip and I had a wonderful lunch at a place called Tropicana. The waiter (owner?) had hospitality by the metric ton.
