The staff’s attention was definitely not on insuring guest needs were being met. Three examples of this are:- Not a single diner meal went by without a missed order. On one occasion, the waiter was asking the other table how their dinner meal was in yet he is not served my plate that was sitting on the waiter stand. This may have not been, as irritating if the rest of the table had not already been served.- The Cabin Steward’s lack of attention to detail amplified the poor for service. We drank bottled water in the room and had to request three times that a new bottled the put in the room after the previous bottle had been finished. We would have drunk more than the three bottles but we gave up on asking after the third time.- This is a first cruise I have ever taken for the staff does all the cleaning during the day. Many times outside sections of the deck were closed during the day so the crew could clean.
The scheduling a ship board activities and the publication of the times of these activities was very poorly executed. Two examples of this are:- Times published for shore excursion tickets did not match times published on other ship publications.- The dinner times had to be adjusted twice during the cruise. Due scheduling many passengers a dinner in the Windjammer cafe. This just created other scheduling problems if you were trying to see an after dinner show.
This cruise was fully booked and demonstrated how poorly designed to Splendor of the Seas is for a great vacation package. Two examples are:- We where not able to see one after dinner show. The reason for this was that you had to get into the show 45 minutes early to be able to get a seat. Several times, we walked in 15 minutes before the show and were unable to get a chair. This was not uncommon for other activities as well. The Captain’s reception was another example of the overcrowded facilities.- The last example of this poorly designed ship is the fact that the gym could not opened until 8 o'clock because it was placed over cabins. This late opening did not provide an opportunity to exercise before breakfast.
While we have been on several other Royal Caribbean International cruises and would rate the experiences as good to excellent we can only rate this experience as fair to poor. If it had not been for several of the shore excursion companies having an excellent customer focus, we would consider this cruise a poor vacation value. This is the reason that our next vacation will probably not be a cruise. The rating for this ship should be reexamined and lowered to reflect the poor service and design. Many other passengers made comments to us that the ship’s appearance looked tired. The itinerary of this cruise was great!!
As RCI doesn't normally come to OZ no one seems to know much about the cruise line - have you been on the Legend? I've not been able to find many reviews on it to date.
