Has any one been on the superstar gemini? We are interested in cruising around Singapore in April and have heard mixed reports. Would like some feed back before we book.

We went on the Gemini in April this year cruising from Singapore to Phuket and back. It really depends on whether you preder the big ships or not. We found the boat lacking in space, poor food quality (first cruise ever to go to bed hungry)and badly organinsed.

The biggest problem was that given you can get on and off in just about every port it became more of a ferry service. We got off in Phuket and stayed a week ourselves before rejoining ship to go back to Singapore but felt it was more like transport rather than a cruise - differnet passengers all the time.

I think you can find better value for money!

Hi Elenore - my geographic knowledge for your part of the world is not the best - some questions -
(a) how many days does it take to cruise from Singapore to Phuket
(b) what are the ports of call
(c) are passengers permitted to 'stay a while' at any or all ports?
(d) do you buy a round trip cruise ticket which allows stop overs or do you decide at time of booking where you wish to stop and for how long
(e) do these stop overs affect the cost of the 'cruise'
(f) time limits on ticket validity?

Airlines permit unlimited stop overs when you buy the most expensive ticket - valid for one year; something cheaper may only allow 2 or 3 stop overs - maybe valid 3 months; next level would be one free stop over and an additional charge for one or two more stop overs. Then there's the 'best buy' fare - NO STOP OVERS.
Validity of airline tickets is a very variable and highly confusing subject - particularly when you are figuring out how much cancellation insurance you need!

Believe many people would be interested in learning more about this 'almost a Ferry Service' - know I would!

Look forward to your next post.

Hi
I'll try and answer most of your questions but you may be better off checking out the Star Cruises website.

Firstly, some of the cruises get from Singapore to Phuket in one day - we took two including a day spent in KL (Port Klang. The Gemini cruise was a seven night itinerary which went Singapore- Port Klang-Phuket-Pangkor-Langkawai- Penang - Malacca - Singapore. The region is very contained and the ship travelled at night giving you a full day in each port where you could do a variety of tours or just get cab as we did and explore on your own.

In regard to joining the cruise enroute, we did have to pay a AUS$150 surcharge to break the trip and stay in Phuket - I have no idea how much it is for other ports. You obviously have to stay the full week in the port of disembarkation if you do break your journey which we found just the right amount of time in Phuket.

Once again, it was convenient for us however, you miss the opportunity to meet up with familiar faces as you do when spending the full seven nights with the same crowd.

Apart from Phuket, most people seemed to break their journey in either Port Klang or Penang - but we saw people embarking at each stop.

Let me know if you need any more information.
Cheers!
