I have been looking for anyone who has cruised with Sun Lines, the current operator of the Sun Vista, because my wife and I are considering a cruise in February. I know they cruise out of Singapore, but don't know anything about the service, or condition of the ship. Would welcome any responses!

The Sunvista is a great classic cruise liner. It was Celebrity's Meridian before.
The ship was build as Galileo Galilei for a Italian transatlantic line and later sold to Chandris Cruises and named Galileo. When Chandris started to run Celebrity Cruises in 1990, they completely refurbished the ship, the whole interior was taken out and replaced by typical Celebrity style facilities. Everything onboard looks simular to to other Celebrity ships, what means that the Sunvista has a very high standard is is very elegant (formerly rated with 5 stars).
Since Sun Cruises took over the ship, they made some refurbishings (like replacing carpets, some paintings...) and the ship offers still a very high standard of cruising. The service is very friendly too.
The food of course is no more the same like it was during Celebrity's operation but is still not bad.
There's no reason to hesitate to take a cruise with the Sunvista. It's really a great ship.

Patrick - Thanks for the information! Unfortunately, I had heard of a terrific promotion through Malaysia Air Lines for a 7 day Sun Vista cruise, but they have stopped taking reservations! Are you aware of any problems with Sun Cruises?

I don't know why they stopped selling this promotion because here the ship is sold by many German tourperators which have quite good success with it.
I really don't think that there's any problem with Sun Cruises. I guess more that it's a question of limited places which Malaysia Airlines had on the Sunvista.
Try to check again with your travel agent if there's any other possibility to arrange this cruise.
Please don't hesitate to ask me further questions as well.

I haven't been able to find a Travel Agent in the States who can book a cruise with Sun Cruises. I also tried to contact an Agent at http://pacific-leisure.com/sun_cruises.htm
which is the site that promotes the Sun Vista, but got no response! Since Malaysia Air seems to have been our only option, I guess we'll go back to the Caribbean this time!

I'd have also suggested you the internet site you found about the Sunvista. Maybe you only have to wait a bit until they'll answer your request.
I could give you some contacts of German touroperators promoting the ship here in Europe but I guess it won't help you a lot because you live in the States.
But I'll check back with some companies here and they might be able to get me contacts in the States. I'll then pass them to you.

Hi Don, have you ever considered a cruise on Star Cruises Superstar Gemini?? I have cruised on both Sun Vista and Gemini and feel the Gemini offers a better package. Any questions, please drop me a line.

Hi, Mark - As I mentioned in my earlier post, my interest in the Sun Vista started with a promotion I had read about through Malaysia Air Lines, which had been withdrawn by the time I got around to deciding to book! What is the itinerary of the Gemini? Are bookings available from the US?

The SuperStar Gemini is cruising the following itinerary this year:

Sun Singapoore
Mon Port Kelang / Malaysia
Tue Pangor / Malaysia
Wed Phuket / Thailand
Thu Langkawi / Malaysia
Fri Georgetown / Penang
Sat Malacca / Malaysia
Sun Singapoore

This ship is much smaller than Sunvista but still very nice. It belongs to Crown Jewel Inc. / Silja Line Stockholm and is under long term charter to Star Cruise, Singapoore. Cunard was chartering the ship under its original name Crown Jewel some years ago.
For further information, please check the cruiseline links at cruisepage which will lead you to Star Cruise's website as well. There you'll find all information you need.
