We are cruising the Eastern Carribean on January 23,1999. We would appreciate comments from others. Also, we are interested in hearing about the land excursions.

Although I've not cruised on the SS Norway, I recently visited it at Southampton, England. It is a wonderfully impressive ship with so much charm. Did you know that it is the worlds longest cruise ship?

My wife and I were entertaining the thought of booking passage aboard the Norway simply for the fact that she's one of the last of her kind. My mom happens to be a travel agent and had taken a cruise aboard her several years ago. Unfortunately, she was rather disappointed with the experience in general, complaining that the food was not what she expected, and that her cabin was far too, for lack of a better word, utilitarian; she was not pleased with the metal furniture, the relative size of the cabin, things of that nature. She had been on an NCL cruise previously, and was similarly disappointed.

I guess I'd like someone to shed a bit more light on this subject. I can't believe that the ship could possibly be that bad. Or can it?

I cruised on the Norway in 1996 and have never had a better cruise! I was traveling with a group and my travel agent went too. I was in F057 which is a Superior Deluxe Penthouse suite. It was 352 sq. ft. with a 99 sq.ft. balcony. My travel agent came to my suite to take pictures because of the size and beauty. The service, food, and entertainment was excellent. I've been on two cruises since then and decided it doesn't get better than the Norway! I've booked her again for Nov. 1999.

I've cruised the Caribbean on the Norway in 1994, and I must tell you I loved the trip. The food was excellent, assuming you love French food, but of course you could always find fast food on the restaurant on the pool area, and the restaurants had a warm athmosphere. Waiters used to offer us flowers made out of napkins and some of them even performed some tricks to entertain us. The cabins, especially those of the lower decks (Biscayne, Atlantic) are very small in fact. Not comfortable at all. But anyway, it depends on the time you want to spend inside them and on the importance you give to a cabin.
But the overall athmosphere on the Norway is, for instance, much more lively than that of the Carnival ships I've been to (Sensation, Ecstasy and Fantasy). And the shows are also much better. Good luck on your choice!

I've sailed on the Norway twice and loved it! I like older ships and really enjoyed the Art Deco touches. The lounges are great - in particular, the International Lounge is comfortable, but very sophisticated with glorious floor-to-ceiling windows and Checkers which is large, although not cavernous, and cheerful. I thought the food was much better than expected, table service very good and friendly; and I loved the NCL touch of having deck stewards spritz people tanning with Evian! I could always find a place to get away from people and read, or join in. Cabins are entertaining if you appreciate the unusual and don't mind a little wear on some of the original furnishings - a wide, wide range of sizes, decor, etc. My theory is that I'm hardly ever in the cabin, so can't worry too much about it. I'll definitely be sailing on NCL again.
